Windmill F A S E R I P Res Pop Gd 10 Ex 20 Ty 6 Gd 10 Gd 10 Ex 20 Gd 10 Ex 20 Sh 0 Health: 46 Karma: 40 Origin: As are most of his fellow Gi Joe operatives, Windmill is but a normal human, lacking special powers of any variety. However, the man does have access to a variety of high tech devices of government manufacture, so he could technically be considered a high tech kind of hero. Known Powers: (none) Equipment: Helmet: while in the air, Edward wears a futuristic black helmet with various mundane devices protruding from it. The helmet itself is made from Good (10) m.s. materials, and provides Edward like protection against physical attacks that strike him in the head. the Joe-Com: this is a new device given to all Joes since the group's reactivation. This high-tech wristband functions as an audio/video transceiver with various other goodies built in to help a soldier on the go, and is described in greater detail in its own equipment entry. Revolver: kept handy should he find himself in trouble outside his aircraft, Edward can make ready use of this effective, if antiquated weapon. He can fire this weapon to inflict Typical (6) Shooting damage in a single shot, though it lacks a semi-automatic option. Skystorm X-wing Chopper: a revolutionary aircraft, the Skystorm can take off like a helicopter, and then once it achieves enough speed, the rotor stops spinning and the jet turbines take over. A helicopter and a fighter jet, the Skystorm is described in its own vehicular entry! Quirks: (none) Talents: Aerial Combat: not only does Edward fly like an ace, he can also fight in most aircraft as well! Whenever he's engaged in aerial combat, Edward should receive a +1 CS to applicable maneuvers, whether offensive, defensive or operational in nature. Education: in addition to his role as a combat and test pilot, Edward is a competent instructor as well. He should receive a +1 CS to any efforts to teach things to others, whether trying to keep his subject's attention or to impart his knowledge onto them. Guns: Edward knows his way around guns. While he packs an old-style revolver, he nonetheless can wield all modern firearms with ease. Whether it's a standard, semi-automatic or fully automatic rifle or pistol, Edward can wield it as if his Agy was +1 CS in rank. Martial Arts type B: an ability everyone picks up in their military training, this talent allows Edward to defend himself without weaponry. When engaged in unarmed melee attacks, Edward may resolve them as if his Ftg was +1 CS higher than is listed above. Military / United States: the source of all his many skills, this talent serves as an origin of sorts for Edward. It describes his instinctual understanding of the S.O.P., and his ability to function seamlessly in almost any fighting unit. Piloting: his claim to fame, this talent denotes Edward's ability to fly most any aircraft. While he originally specialized in helicopters, Edward can also fly most fixed-wing aircraft (and even hybrids of the two) as if his Agy was +1 CS in rank. Contacts: As the Gi Joe operative known to his fellows as Windmill, Edward can count the team as a reliable contact - he's saved their bacon more than once, after all! Edward also has numerous additional contacts in education and military circles, particularly where piloting is involved. Costume: Windmill's Gi Joe uniform is... conspicuous. It consists of a bright green flight jacket over an orange T shirt, loose-fitting orange trousers, an orange leather belt, black leather boots, occasional mirrored sunglasses, and a black futuristic helmet with orange racing stripes. Personality: Edward has something of a dry sense of humor, and inflicts it upon his friends as well as his foes. People tend to put up with this though because he has the skills to back his comments up, and has more than a bit of irrational bravery under the hood, so to speak... Real Name: Edward J. Roth, Grade O-3 Occupation: stopped-rotor aircraft operator Legal Status: citizen of the United States with no known criminal record Marital Status: single Alias(es), if any: none Group Affiliation: Gi Joe Height: 5' 10" Hair: brown Eyes: brown Weight: 160 lbs. Other Distinguishing Characteristics: none. Story: Edward has always been a pilot - it's just something he's enjoyed since the first time his feet left the ground. He went into the Army in order to become a pilot, and proved so good at it that they eventually made him an Army Flight Warrant Officers School instructor. He worked there for a time, putting aspiring Army helicopter pilots through their paces in Fort Rucker, and eventually made his way to the Army Aviation Department Test Activity division, giving a whole bevy of experimental helicopters their fair due when they came his way. One of the particularly unusual prototypes Edward had the pleasure to test out was the Skystorm X-Wing Chopper. This vehicle was meant to be a cross between a helicopter and a fixed-wing aircraft, having the properties of both - it was a chopper and a fighter jet! Though the military ultimately went with the Osprey design instead of the Skystorm, Edward proved that the latter was a viable concept, and as such it made its way onto the Gi Joe team's arsenal. And since they needed someone to fly it, Edward came along for the ride! After he made it through the terrifying Gi Joe entrance exams, Edward was given the code name of Windmill, and he made his way to the new Pit along with fellow Joe 'newbies' Skidmark and Wild Card. Little did this trio know that they picked up a passenger en route. This fellow was the Cobra Star-viper, who was looking for a way into the Gi Joe team's new base, and literally hitched a ride on the bottom of one of their vehicles. Once there, he stole an expensive 'black box' unit and escaped - making Edward's first day on the job quite exciting indeed. After this mess, Edward got into the groove of his Gi Joe assignment, and performed a variety of covert, Special Missions for the team. Though few details of these have been released, Edward and his Skystorm have performed admirably in the fight against Cobra's terrorism. When the Joes broke up for a while in the early 90s, Edward presumably returned to his work at Fort Rucker, doing so until the team called upon him again several years later. His first mission with the 'new' team saw him flying combat over Cobra Island in its second Civil War. Edward quickly went into a 'reserve' status at this point, though he returned to active duty again during World War III, a conflict Cobra itself instigated. With that war won (if barely), Edward remains a Joe to this very day, helping his allies to hunt down leftover Cobra fugitives!
