Origin:

As is the case with most of the Joes, Mariner is naught but a normal human. He has no special powers due to aberrant genes, occult education or anything else. While he has a few high tech gadgets handy, Mariner mostly fights evil with his fists and his natural skills.

Known Powers:

(none)

Equipment:

Body Armor: a large portion of Mariner's field uniform consists of hardened armor plates. This gear collectively combines to offer the man Typical (6) protection from physical attack, whether shooting, stabbing, smashing, or other similar assaults are aimed at his person.

the Joe-Com: this is a new device given to all Joes since the group's reactivation. This high-tech wristband functions as an audio/video transceiver with various other goodies built in to help a soldier on the go, and is described in greater detail in its own equipment entry.

Knife: as do almost all modern military personnel, Mariner carries a blade with him in the field. This Incredible (40) m.s. knife can be used to cut through items of up to like m.s. (given enough time), or to otherwise inflict Edged Attack damage against living targets.

Semi-automatic Pistols: Mariner carries two of these weapons with him in the field, one holstered on each hip. He can fire them to inflict Typical (6) Shooting damage in a single shot, raised +1 CS if fired semi-auto (or +1 CS to either mode when dual wielding).

Quirks:

(none)

Talents:

Boating: as a high ranking Navy operative, at least before joining the Joes, Mariner is good with boats of all kinds - and has demonstrated his ability with such. He should receive a +1 CS on all Control FEATs attempted while piloting aquatic vehicles.

Guns: Mariner is good with guns. The man is an expert with most modern firearms, whether they're of the standard, semi-automatic or fully automatic variety. When wielding such, Mariner benefits from a +1 CS to his Agility score, whether firing just one or two at the same time.

Martial Arts type B: everyone who enlists is taught how to defend themselves when unarmed; Mariner just makes sure he keeps in regular practice... mostly thanks to his big mouth. He should receive a +1 CS to his Fighting on any unarmed melee attack he attempts.

Military / United States: the source of most of his skills, whether marketable or otherwise, Mariner is a product of the United States Navy. This talent serves as an origin of sorts for the man, and details his inherent knowledge of the S.O.P.

Two Guns: supplementing his ability to wield most modern firearms, Mariner can also use two such weapons simultaneously. When doing this, he can either add +1 CS to the damage caused by firing two guns at once, or add an extra gun attack each turn (his choice).

Contacts:

Mariner is a member of the Gi Joe team who started out as one of its Greenshirts. The Joes saw him earn his place on the team first hand, and thus he can consider them reliable contacts - particularly his fellow Greenshirts who also managed to 'make it' as well.

Costume:

Mariner's Gi Joe field uniform consists of a black stretch fabric T shirt beneath a steel armored vest, blue trousers with black tiger stripes dyed on, armored metal boots, wrist guards and knee pads, a dark blue belt, and dark blue holsters for his twin firearms.

Personality:

Somewhat cocksure and more than a little headstrong, David nonetheless has the capability to match his bluster. He's served in the Navy for a good long time, too, so David is somewhat 'salty' when it comes down to it... not that the Joes seem to mind that much.

Story:

David Adcox is a long-time veteran of the United States Navy. He did his time in the service of his country for years, but instead of riding out his 'hitch' until he piled up a respectable pension, David decided to push himself ever harder. He tried to become a Gi Joe!

When the Joes were first reinstated in 2001, David attempted to join the team, though he was placed in its probationary, Greenshirt program first. While he didn't get his own code name, he was able to participate in various missions alongside his idols in the Joe team.

While there many Greenshirt recruits, David managed to stand out more than the rest, and this, combined with his ability to survive the rigors of the job (something many Greenshirts did not manage), David was eventually made a fully fledged Gi Joe, and given the code name of Mariner.

On his next mission, David joined Torpedo, Mayday, Barrel Roll and Depth Charge in a Spy Troops style raid which let Barrel Roll infiltrate Cobra Island. This mission was successful, and David would go on to participate in a variety of other missions for Gi Joe before it was deactivated again.

At least, publicly. When this happened, David went to a reserve status for the Joes, as did the vast majority of the team, leaving only a skeleton crew to manage the threat that Cobra's remnants posed. Naturally, this turned out to be a bad idea, as it let Cobra renew itself again.

And attempt to take over the entire planet, doing so in a conflict correctly dubbed World War III. The Joes managed to win this battle by the seat of their pants, and with Cobra dispersed a third time, the Joes were called on to remain at their full strength from here on out.

David, having worked harder than most to earn his place on the team, gladly returned to active duty once he was asked to!
