Avalanche The Avalanche is another in the G.I. Joe team's long tradition of heavy duty, cold weather combat vehicles. It takes after the H.A.V.O.C. somewhat, in that it is a heavily armed and armored, tracked vehicle that can also support a small V.T.O.L. craft, providing its own air support. The Avalanche has the following vehicular statistics: C S B P Ex 20 Gd 10 Rm 30 Rm 30 Anti-Piercing Armored Treads: the treads on the Avalanche are specially designed to resist the effects of armor piercing attacks. While these do not have a higher Body rating than the Avalanche proper, these treads may ignore up to 2 CS of Armor Piercing on such attacks that are targeted on (or incidentally hit) them. Freeze Blast Cannon: a curious exercise in using what you've got available, this weapon draws in moisture from the environment around it in order to recycle it as voluminous blasts of bone-chilling ice and slush, which inflicts Remarkable (30) Stunning Energy damage per debilitating (and potentially lethal) blast. Ice Mine Deployer: though they're not much in vogue these days, the Avalanche has the ability to deploy a full field of ice mines with digital accuracy, littering an area with Remarkable (30) intensity fragmentary (Edged Attack damage) explosives. These defensive weapons are excellent for area denial and hot, vehicle on vehicle combat. Missile Launchers: the Avalanche is equipped with two synchronized, computer enhanced, pinpoint trajectory launch bays. It can fire surface to air missiles with the below vehicular statistics, which inflict +1 CS damage if two missiles are fired, or +2 CS damage if a full volley of four rockets are launched at a target: C S B Damage Rm 30 Am 50 Ex 20 Rm 30 Edged Attack (fragmentary) Pulse Cannon: this 'cannon', mounted on the side of the Avalanche's freeze blast cannon, is actually a one-shot missile launcher. While the Avalanche's primary missile bay is filled with surface to air missiles, this launcher can strike any target on land, sea or air. It has the missile statistics presented above. Shock-Proof Canopy: the transparent blue dome over the driver's seat of the Avalanche, usually occupied by Cold Front, is specially treated to be shock and shatter 'proof'. While this does not improve its Body score compared to the rest of the Avalanche, it does allow it to share the benefits of that same effective material strength. Telecommunications Suite: the Avalanche has a powerful two-way, audio/video communications system, which can be accessed from either the Avalanche proper, the Avalanche's attack craft, or from Cold Front's helmet. Using a powerful UHF/VHF antennae, it has a Typical (6) - 250 mile - communications range. Attack Craft: Perhaps the largest surprise equipped within the Avalanche's already curious arsenal, this secondary vehicle is a supersonic, vertical take off and landing aircraft. This craft can be used to supply the Avalanche instant air support, often in an unexpected fashion, and is possessed of the following vehicular statistics: C S B P Ex 20 Sh X Ex 20 Rm 30 Backblast Cannons: the Avalanche's attack craft is outfitted with twinned 55mm assault cannons, allowing it to inflict considerable damage to enemy vehicles in combat. These two weapons, fired simultaneously, can be used to inflict Incredible (40) Shooting damage in a fully automatic, overwhelming hail of lead. Flight: once launched, the attack craft can scout ahead of the Avalanche to spot trouble or any other quarry, and can also be surprise air support in a pinch, as most tracked vehicles don't contain such airborne oddities (aside from, say, the Sky H.A.V.O.C.). The attack craft can either hover or fly at up to Mach 1 (Shift X (150)) flight. Laser Light Identification System: these basic, yet handy laser emitting 'tags', allow the attack craft of the Avalanche to identify itself to friendly sensor systems that detect it, acting as a 'cookie cutter' unit which prevents friendly fire incidents (helpful as you can't always see what you're shooting at). Missile Launchers: the attack craft is equipped with two top-mounted, synchronized, computer enhanced, pinpoint trajectory missiles. It can fire these missiles, which have the vehicular statistics provided for the Avalanche above, either singly or simultaneously in order to reap the benefits of a +1 CS to the damage inflicted. Shock-Proof Canopy: the transparent blue dome over the cockpit of the attack craft is specially treated to be shock and shatter 'proof'. Being made with the same basic process as the Avalanche's own canopy, this allows the attack craft's canopy a Body rating +1 CS higher than the rest of the vehicle proper.
