Powers:

Dream Travel (i): the Madman's main power is his ability to project his mind into the short-lived pocked dimensions created by the subconscious mind while it dreams. He can do this at intensity 11. While in said pocket dimension, the Madman can substitute this intensity for any other ability or power scores, allowing him to interact physically with the dream to significant effect.

The interesting thing about the Madman's dream powers, however, is that they can be used to inflict real life harm on a body. Should he attack a person in their dreams, the Madman can inflict his power score in damage upon them, one's Willpower score being the only defense against this attack. And of course, few normals (his chosen victims) have sufficient Willpower to resist this...

Illusion (w): functioning at intensity 11, this power allows the Madman to warp people's sensory input, slowly twisting their surroundings into a bizarre mish-mash of insane and terrible images, reflecting his state of mind at the time. The trick is, he can only do this to folks while he's in their dreams; in other words, he has the dreamwarping stunt for this power, but not the power itself, per se.

Calling:

Demolisher: the Madman, being terminally insane, attacked, tortured, and even killed people simply for the sheer thrill of it. He had no significant motivation, no actual reason other than personal enjoyment, and besides, he could no longer tell what he was doing, much less that it was wrong...

Costume:

Oddly enough, the Madman is usually wearing a straight jacket (with optional padded room) most of the time. While his mind is wandering about inflicting harm to people in their dreams, however, he wears black leather boots, army green pants, and a black turtleneck sweater. His motivation for this, along with most of his other motivations, are totally unknown.

Personality:

He's bloody bonkers. After the Black Event, the Madman's powers kicked in full-tilt, and his ability to enter and alter the dreams of others has totally shattered his mind. As such, he's transformed into something of a megalomaniac, treading around in people's dreams and killing them simply for kicks and, most importantly, because he can.

Story:

Little is known about the history and background of the paranormal known only as the Madman. It is known that he was relatively normal until the Black Event, the disintegration of the entire city of Pittsburgh (and about twenty five miles around it), after which he changed. He gained the ability to peer into the dreams of others, and affect them as if events in said dreams were actually occurring.

The man that would become the Madman enjoyed playing with people; so much so, in fact, that he eventually lost his grip on standard reality, and was institutionalized. This didn't stop him from playing with his toys, however, and the Madman managed, over time, to kill over 342 people in their sleep, baffling authorities and totally freaking out the local populace.

Though he was having fun, the Madman wasn't sure if he was invulnerable in this form. As such, he sought out Keith Remsen, the so-called Nightmask, in order to see if this fellow dream walker could manage to kill him. Attempting to escape this dangerous man, Remsen probed his mind to find some sort of image he could use against him.

An image of the Justice Killer surfaced.

Seeing this, the Madman let Remsen go, instead wanting to face Justice in his dreams. Drawing him into his nightmare, the Madman taunted Justice for a time, trying to goad him into destroying him in any way he possibly could. Since his sword arm wasn't working, Tensen instead triggered his shields inside the Madman, an act that split him into multiple, little 'kid' Madmen.

These little trolls then picked Tensen up and threw him over a cliff's edge. Of course, the Madman let him go, glad that Tensen had done his all to kill him, and had failed. Now sure of his invulnerability, the Madman then settled in to a life of toying with people from a distance, and then killing them. Of course, little did he know that forces were aligning against him.

In the waking world, Remsen had managed to determine the identity of the Madman, and since he had proved that he was responsible for hundreds of sleeping deaths in the surrounding areas, the Madman's psychiatrists decided that they had to lobotomize him as soon as possible. This was never shown, however, so it is unknown whether or not the Madman managed to avoid this grisly fate...
