Dimitri Durovich Strength Agility Intellect Willpower 5x 3x 6c 5x Hand Size: 3 (17) Edge: 1 Powers: Absorption (s): after Chernobyl's radiation overwhelmed his cellular structure, Dimitri changed. A radical coping mechanism to be sure, his body actually developed the means of absorbing hard radiation - and he was being bathed in the stuff like nobody's business. He seems capable of absorbing high-energy radiation (anywhere from X-rays on up) of up to intensity 16 and storing it in his body, though when he's full Dimitri will also emit intensity 12 raw heat energy as well as setting off Geiger counters for miles. Equipment: (none) Hindrances: (none) Skills: Languages / English and Russian (i): in addition to his advanced knowledge of nuclear power, Dimitri is also multi-lingual. He has demonstrated an effective mastery of both English and Russian, and is able to speak, read and write in both languages fluently. Physics (i): Dimitri is a nuclear physicist, and is fully trained in the operation of RBMK nuclear power plants, such as Chernobyl. In all matters related to physics, particularly that of the nuclear variety, Dimitri should receive a reduction in the difficulty of related actions. Calling: Explorer, with a secondary calling of Protector: Dimitri is a good man, wanting to use his knowledge to help others. He studies the far end of scientific knowledge in order to bring his understanding to the world to the rest of humanity. Costume: Originally, Dimitri wore simple lab clothes to work, including regular slacks, a white long sleeved, collared shirt beneath a long white lab coat, a black tie, and leather shoes. He likely mixed the colors on his slacks and shirt as the opportunity arose. Personality: Dimitri is a smart and talented man, one who takes his job very seriously. He's also a rather brave, stand-up kind of guy, willing to sacrifice his own life to save the lives of other people, having done so on not just one occasion, but two! Real Name: Dimitri Durovich Occupation: nuclear physicist Legal Status: citizen of the U.S.S.R. with no known criminal record, legally deceased Marital Status: unrevealed Alias(es), if any: none Group Affiliation: none Height: 5' 9" Hair: blonde, burned off by his power Eyes: green Weight: 185 lbs Other Distinguishing Characteristics: Dimitri wore horn-rimmed glasses due to his vision problems. He also wore a full beard and moustache. After he was changed by radiation, Dimitri's skin adopted a bright yellow-green hue. Story: Dimitri Durovich was originally a mild-mannered nuclear physicist assigned to the operation of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. As luck would have it, he was at work the day the reactor coolant failed, specifically due to the incompetence of his staff. Knowing that the thermal reaction was going to be catastrophic, Dimitri stayed behind to try and repair the coolant system while his underlings contacted the authorities to warn the nearby town of Pripyat of the imminent disaster. They fled while Dimitri sacrificed himself. Of course, while countless others died in the immediate aftermath of the reactor's meltdown, Dimitri did not. He was instead... changed. The intense radiation surrounding and suffusing his body did not tear his cellular structure apart, but changed it. Suddenly absorbing vast amounts of the nuclear radiation around him, Dimitri hit his upper limits... and then began to shed the harmful energies. It was at this point that he met the American, Jenny Swensen, who had journeyed there in her experimental, Mark 1 M.A.X. armor! She helped Dimitri to cool off, since he was also giving off deadly amounts of heat, by opening a tunnel into an underground river stream. Once he was cooled off, Dimitri told Jenny to bury him in stone, in order to stop his body from contaminating the surrounding area any more. Though she didn't want to, Jenny did indeed honor Dimitri's wish, and flew off once she'd entombed the man in the rock that surrounded them. Whether or not this was the end of Dimitri remains to be seen however; he did survive being at ground zero of the Chernobyl incident, after all. If his newfound powers could protect him from there, perhaps being buried alive isn't enough to end his life either. As radioactive as the area around him is despite his efforts, it's quite possible that Dimitri's absorption power has been keeping him going to this very day...! Chronology: Amazing Fantasy #19.
