Issue 3: Counter Attack
Flying the Mark 2 M.A.X. suit to Boston General Hospital, Jenny paid her pal Giotti a visit; he was pretty broken up by Krotze International security guards during his break-in on their grounds. His ribs were pretty crushed up, and Jenny felt bad, so she went to visit him.
While there, the police arrived to ask her some questions about the theft of some 'hardware' from Krotze International, as Fritz Krotze himself pointed the cops her way. At this point, Jenny accused him of murdering her father, which the police couldn't investigate without any proper proof, as they'd already closed the case on her father's death.
Meanwhile, Fritz Krotze was busy dealing with the pilot he had use the Mark 1 M.A.X. armor to attack Jenny Swensen. The man wanted more money to ease his conscience, as he was also the trigger man that killed her father. Fritz obliged him by testing out Krotze International's new laser prototype on his body. Of course, he wasn't dead until after the test...
In a Boston warehouse, Jenny was busy readying her armor for an assault upon Krotze International's facility, when she was greeted by two of the Troubleshooters, who had designed some more devices based on her father's M.A.X. technology. Ferris, for example, had built a set of leg braces that allowed him to run real fast, which he calls 'Fast-Back'.
Terry, on the other hand, created the 'Think-Tank', a special helmet that allows her to interface with computer systems in a sort of impromptu cyber-space. She demonstrated its abilities by hacking into Krotze's systems, getting Jenny a layout of the complex. Some of the Troubleshooters wanted to go with Jenny, but she wouldn't let them, a fact that suited Terry fine; she wasn't happy with Jenny lately.
While Krotze explained to Major Benton (a Department of Defense representative) how he'd damaged that Behemoth tank, Jenny smashed her way into Krotze International, accidentally shooting Benton with her laser cannon. Making sure she hadn't killed him, Swensen continued on to the Krotze database to retrieve the proof she needed to put the man behind bars.
Once she got it, Jenny fled from the large array of armed gunmen waiting for her, only to walk right into the path of Krotze's S.D.I. laser weapon, which he was more than happy to use on her. If not for the timely intervention of the Troubleshooters, who cut off the laser beam being used on Jenny, she would've been cooked in her armor.
Once freed from the energy attack, Jenny smashed up the laser system before it could be used against her again, and she and the Troubleshooters then made for safety. After cleaning up the mess, Krotze went home to get some sleep, only to find that an agent of the Club known as Steel Hawk had broken into his home, and was going to likely hurt him...
Issue 4: Revelation
Having already captured Fritz Krotze, Steel Hawk went after his chief minion, Faylen (the guy that had run the Behemoth tank in that mission against Swensen). Of course, Steel Hawk didn't actually need Mister Faylen alive or anything, so after leading him on a merry chase throughout Albany, Steel Hawk killed the poor man with a car bomb.
Meanwhile, Jenny Swensen appeared before a United States Senate hearing (in her M.A.X. armor), detailing to a committee looking into Krotze International what Krotze had done to her and her father, and handed over the disk she'd seized earlier. You know, the disk detailing Krotze's dealings with the Club, that international group of thugs?
After seeing this on television, Steel Hawk beat Krotze to death with a steel baseball bat, in an effort to frame Swensen for his murder. This was, of course, becasue she'd vowed to 'give him what he deserved' as soon as he showed himself. The Steel Hawk then dumped Krotze's body in the Charles River, and waited for the police to find the body.
Days later, Jenny and the Troubleshooters attended a dinner held by Senator Hurt, the man behind the Krotze investigations, where she demonstrated to the press just what her M.A.X. suit could really do. It was then that Eric found a bomb that Steel Hawk had planted on the facilities, a bomb that Jenny managed to stop from detonating at the last minute.
Of course, this was part of Steel Hawk's plan to draw her out, and once she came looking for him, he started taking her armor apart with his advanced ordinance. Of course, it was the big ol' grenade that finally flattened the M.A.X. armor, and while Steel Hawk gloated over the ruined armor, Jenny crushed his ankle with her remaining power.
Steel Hawk tried to kill her for that, but he was out of ammo, having expended it all while flailing in pain from the crushing that Jenny gave his leg. He then fled the scene, as the cops were desending upon the area in force, only to miss the last part of his plan taking shape: Jenny was immediately arrested for Krotze's murder, as the cops had finally found his body...
Issue 5: Destruction
While Jenny languished in jail, Eric, Ferris, and Giotti broke into the Boston P.D. evidence facility, and started to repair the Mark 2 M.A.X. suit, in order to use it to get her out of jail. Of course, the thing was a wreck after Jenny's battle with Steel Hawk, so they had to do a whole lot of repair work. In fact, they couldn't fix it in just one night, so they planned a subsequent break-in later...
Meanwhile, Ken Connell was considering the events surrounding his 'friend', Jenny, when he was attacked by three street thugs. Of course, they had no means to really hurt him whatsoever, so he simply shrugged off their attack. After the losers fled, Ken decided to visit Jenny in prison, in order to see if she was holding up all right.
The next day, we got to see a shot of Steel Hawk putting himself back together after his run-in with Jenny, at which point he was given the task of eliminating the English Prime Minister during her visit in the States for the coming holidays. Demonstrating to his Club contact that he was healing just fine, he took the job with maniacal glee.
After her court hearing that day, Jenny was passed a note by Eduardo Giotti, a not that told her what the Troubleshooters were up to. While she was visited by Ken, Jenny asked him to visit her cell later that night (via the windows) so she could get his help on some matter. Ken agreed, and would later show up right on schedule.
Later that night, the Troubleshooters managed to get the M.A.X. armor operational again, though the power pack wan't working so hot. Nonetheless, they barrelled out of the evidence building in the suit, roughing up several cops in the process. The trio of Troubleshooters were finallly surrounded, however, when the suit was yanked off the ground by a blur of light.
Using his Star Brand, Ken was able to stop the M.A.X. armor and remove the power pack before it could explode, destroying a significant portion of Boston. He then met up with the Troubleshooters, returning the remains of the M.A.X. armor to them at M.I.T. before the authorities could collect it, admonishing the students to stop trying to be heroes before they got themselves killed.
