Origin:

Kenji is a normal human in every way. He is known as 'kensai' literally translated as 'sword saint'. Trained in various ancient, quasi-mystic fighting arts since childhood, he exhibts a skill that is near-super human. It is suspected that his weapons may be magical in nature.

Known Powers:

Martial Arts Supremacy / Swords: Kenji is a master swordsman. He wields this power at Excellent (20) rank, which adds to his already impressive rank with swordsmanship, allowing him to resolve attacks with such a weapon on the Incredible (40) column. Furthermore, he can use any sword to inflict Remarkable (30) Edged or Blunt Attack damage.

When wielding the Thunder Cutter, however, he can do a whole lot more...

Equipment:

Thunder Cutter: Kenji wields an ancient blade of near unearthly craftsmanship and quality called 'Thunder Cutter'. Although over 1000 years old, the antique sword is razor sharp and stronger than tempered steel. The blade is of Monstrous (75) material strength, is 'bonded' to Kenji, and displays a variety of properties when used by him, such as:

* Ability Enhancement: while wielding the Thunder Cutter, Kenji's Fighting score is enhanced by +1 CS. This ability boost doesn't add to Kenji's Health score any, but it does shift up the lethality of his talent with the sword, which (thanks to his Swords talent and his Martial Arts Supremacy, allows him to resolve attacks with this weapon on the Amazing (50) column).

* Energy Reflection: the powerful enchantment on the Thunder Cutter is such that it can be used to actually reflect energy effects aimed at Kenji. This ability functions at Good (10) rank, though the sword itself must be placed in the line of fire in order for it to actually reflect an attack away from Kenji. Still, this is a useful ability, indeed...

* Enhanced Damage: an inherently powerful magical weapon, the Thunder Cutter can be used to inflict more damage than a mere sword ought to be able to. In Kenji's hands, the amount of damage the Thunder Cutter can inflict is raised to Incredible (40) Edged or Blunt attack damage (depending on how he actually uses the blade).

* Resistance to Electricity: thanks to its mystic origins, the Thunder Cutter (along with its wielder) has the benefit of an enhanced resistance to Electrical attack. This is a Monstrous (75) rank power, which allows both Kenji and the sword to stand tall in the face of all but the most powerful of electrical discharges (it'd take a lot of such energies to actually overcome this power).

* Talents: the Thunder Cutter acts as a focus for various mental talents. In essence, it allows Kenji to make use of the Trance and Resist Domination talents. These, then, give him the ability to feint death (yellow Intuition FEAT roll necessary to disbelieve the feint, if given a reason) and enhanced (+1 CS) resistance to mental attacks of all sorts.

* finally, the Thunder Cutter itself is virtually weightless, and as such, Kenji can draw the thing almost instantly in order to use it.

Quirks:

Alien Customs 3: having grown up in in complete isolation, in an Eastern society, Kenji has an incredibly difficult time relating to just about anybody, Western culture or not. For instance, Kenji speaks impeccable English, but he simply doesn't get slang or such whatsoever.

As such, he takes everything said in an almost literal sense, and the man almost comes across as a veritable alien as such. This, of course, causes Kenji to suffer a -6 CS (!) adjustment to his Popularity score, when dealing with such folks that find Eastern cultures and mores contemptible.

Bluntness: having grown up in isolation from the rest of the world, Kenji doesn't have a great command of various social graces. He is very blunt and brutally honest. He must pass a Reason FEAT roll at -1 CS in order to prevent himself from blurting out the first response that comes to his mind.

Fighting Logistics: a natural tactician, Kenji gains a +1 CS against any one opponent after battling him for 1d10 rounds of combat (or two separate battles). This bonus will last until such an opponent undergoes some sort of radical change in fighting style or physical capability.

Sturdiness (NH): Due to his years of martial training, Ronin is sturdier and his a stronger constitution than normal. His stamina is particularly hardy and his body can withstand more damage and abuse than normal, which allows him to calculate his NH score as if his End were +1 CS.

Talents:

Languages / English and Japanese: Kenji has the ability to fluently speak in both Japanese and English, which allows him to easily get by in any country that uses either of these languages as their 'official' tongue.

Martial Arts types A, and B: Kenji is well-versed in the use of unarmed combat, and as such, can cause stun or slam results regardless of the comparative Strength or Endurance of he and his targets, and adds a +1 CS to unarmed melee attack.

Oriental Weapons: Kenji has been extensively trained in the use of such weapons as shuriken, crossbows, sais, katanas, and kris, and he may add a +1 CS to Fighting or Agility (whichever is necessary) FEATs required when wielding them.

Quick-Strike: rather fast on his feet, Kenji receives a +1 modifier to his initiative roll as a general matter of course. Furthermore, when attempting to roll up extra attacks, Kenji makes the FEAT as though his Ftg (off) was +1 CS in rank.

Swords: while he can use several weapons with proficiency, Kenji is truly at home when wielding a sword, and he does so as if his Fighting rank were +1 CS (so, before his Weapon Supremacy, then, he makes sword attacks on the Excellent (20) column).

Tactics: rather well-versed in planning combat maneuvers, Kenji receives a +1 CS to all combat FEAT rolls required when executing a specific battle tactic or plan while in a fight, whether he himself made the plan or somebody else did for him.

Contacts:

Kenji grew up in an extremely isolated society (a cult, essentially). He's since left this group to walk the earth in order to explore it, so he isn't sure if he can actually rely upon them for aid (or anybody else, for that matter).

Costume:

Ronin most often wears traditional Japanese costume (ie. Kimono, pants (called gi), and boots/sandals). His robes will bear the colors of his house: dark blue and gray (silver). Due to his break from his clan, Ronin has taken to wearing his hair loose instead of tied in a traditional queue. Also, he may sometimes dress in western garb: dark gray slacks, dark black turtle neck and gray trench coat.

Personality (in the words of Peter):

One third Wolverine, two parts Clint Eastwood, and three and a half parts any good swordsman from Japanese myth, literature and/or anime. In other words, your stereo-typical tall, dark, mysterious stranger who rides into town and takes the bad guys out. He is quiet and reserved, but more from discipline than from any sort of anti-social attitude.

He doesn't mince words, letting his steel do the talking when words fail. Intense, focused and single-minded, he's a mean and ruthless SOB when the situation warrants it.

Story:

Kenji was born to the Ikaro "Ike" and Kimiko "Kim" Mura family about 3 decades ago. Ike and Kim, both executives for the Toronago Corporation, were thoroughly westernized, much to the chagrin of Tengi Mura, Ike's grandfather. A staunch traditionalist, the old man demanded that his grandson be raised according to traditional ways and values.

The boys parents, however, were having nothing to do with it. The rift between the Grandfather and father was so bad that Tengi disowned his son while Ike moved his young family to the US. Unknown to Ike or Kim, Grandfather was a member of the Idealist Group: The Shogun Warriors, a society dedicated to the readoption of Japanese Traditionalism, specifically that of the Feudal Period.

Employing agents from this group, old Mura had young Kenji stolen from his parents and whisked away to the group's hidden stronghold, deep within the Koga Mountains. There, young Kenji was brought up in a Feudal society, cut off from his parents and the modern world. He was told that his parents had died and, having never seen the outside world, how was he to know that Feudal Japan no longer existed?

Kenji was schooled in the ways of the Samurai, trained in the social and martial skills of this warrior caste. To his credit, Kenji proved to be an excellent student. Such were his skills and prowess that he was presented with his clan's heirloom, a antique samurai sword: the Thundercutter. It was said that the blade was enchanted and possessed hidden powers that only a true warrior could unlock.

Kenji proved to be such a warrior. Bonding with his weapon, the young samurai was able to unlock its hidden secrets, making them his own. His grandfather was extremely proud of the boy. His gamble had paid off in full. In a moment of foolhardiness, Grandfather Mura remarked about how stupid Kenji's parents had been and how the youth was well rid of them.

Shocked and angered, Kenji forced his grandfather to reveal the truth: that his parents were indeed alive and that his entire upbringing had been a lie. Outraged by the deception and pained by his loss, Kenji fled the group's stronghold into the outside world. The Shogun Warriors sent agents to retrieve him, but they all fell before the might of his enchanted blade.

Kenji's quest to find his family has led him to the shores of the United States. What adventures will find our young hero in this strange place?
