Captain Katabatic Strength Agility Intellect Willpower 8x 10x 5x 12x Hand Size: 4 (25) Edge: 2 Powers: Body Transformation / Energy (a): Captain Katabatic isn't human. You see, he came into being (or permanently mutated, or whatever) into a being of living, cold energies - a thermal vacuum, if you will. He has this power at intensity 10, but it cannot be negated (it's a permanent state of being). As you can guess, this power is bound by the One Form Only limitation - Captain K cannot transform into other forms of energy, or even change into a human (if he ever actually was one). Furthermore, he is normally in a state that is intangible, making him invulnerable to kinetic attacks. Normally. However, he can form an ice body within his energy matrix, allowing him to bring his Strength to bear against a foe (if an opponent warrants a more 'personal' defeat). When he does this, though, he loses his kinetics invulnerability, for damage to the ice within disrupts his energy matrix. Cold Control (i): being an active, sentient energy matrix that works to neutralize any fire and/or heat in his vicinity, Captain Katabatic naturally has the ability to manipulate the cold in various fashions, doing so at intensity 18 - he's had quite a while to refine his skills. He has these power stunts: * Cold Fire (i): his primary attack form, this power stunt allows Captain Katabatic to fire a beam of energy at an opponent that saps his or her thermal energy. This intensity 18 attack form can freeze most normal humans instantly, and can seriously hinder many super heroes, as well. * Cold Waves (i): in addition to sapping a body of his heat directly, Captain K can emit a wave of incredibly intense cold in the area around him, increasing the difficulty of any action attempted within striking distance of his person, unless a body is resistant to cold attacks. * Ensnarement (a): instead of just freezing a body solid, the Captain can fire a beam that freezes the air around him, encasing him in ice of material strength 18. This (usually thick) barrier can be overcome by passing a Strength (cold control) action while so ensnared. * Ice Missiles (i): Captain K can create a sort of 'rolling freeze beam' with his cold beams, thus launching frigid, icy missiles at a foe. These missiles inflict intensity 14 damage upon impact, and can be of either a blunt or edged nature, depending on the Captain's whims. * Ice Walls (i): the Captain can generate rather large lumps of ice, which are rather useful when blocking multiple attacks from striking him (or others). These walls are of a material strength of 18, and can absorb like punishment before they crumble; the destroying attack will not affect Captain K, however. * Molding / Ice (i): one curious ability that Captain Katabatic has demonstrated is the ability to shape extant ice as he sees fit; this comes in real handy when fine-tuning ice restraints and the like. This power can only manipulate ice, however - liquid water is unaffected by this ability. * Resistance to Cold Attacks (s): while he's not immune to cold attack, per se, the Captain is highly resistant to such. You see, this power stunt allows him +10 resistance to like attack; a particularly powerful cold-wielding foe (or one scoring a 'lucky hit') can affect him still, but that's about it. * Flight (a): as a being who essentially has no mass, Captain Katabatic can will himself to move, in three dimensions, as he sees fit. He isn't very fast, though, and can only fly at intensity 4 speeds - or 60 miles per hour. However, being intangible, he can even 'fly' through solid matter... Equipment: (none) Hindrances: (none) Skills: (none) Calling: Gloryhound: more than anything else - anything - Captain Katabatic feels that he must be the one and only cold manipulator in existence - he covets such uniqueness. If he learns of any such folk besides himself, he'll go out of his way to defeat them... usually in an impressive bout of bragging and pontification! Costume: None. The kooky Captain Katabatic had no use for clothing or such - he didn't even have a physical body unless he chose to construct one. As such, he mostly appears 'in the buff' while acting out against fellow cold-manipulating beings - whether he's in his 'energy' form or his dummy ice body. Personality: The Captain is quite a card. He's known for making all kinds of long-winded speeches whenever talking to anybody, usually to the point that the person talking with him loses track of exactly what he's trying to say. He can ramble on, and on, and on... to the point that he leaves you downright confused. At the same time, his motivations are quite clear - he's willing to tell anybody that'll listen that he is the Master of Cold, the Admiral of the Arctic, the King of Chill, and / or the Führer of Freeze. If he should meet or hear of any other cold manipulator, the Captain will pursue them to the ends of the earth. This is because the 'man' feels that he should be truly unique in the world, and should he actually be defeated by such 'rivals', he'll likely sink into a despair that can only be cured by a rematch - rematches, if necessary. If anything, he puts one in mind of a pro wrestler, even if he is inhuman after a fashion. Real Name: unknown Occupation: adventurer, general trouble-maker Legal Status: Captain Katabatic is a being of indeterminate citizenship, with no known criminal record in any earthly nation as of yet Marital Status: single Alias(es), if any: the Admiral of the Arctic, the Führer of Freeze, the King of Chill, the Master of Cold, the Warlord of Winter, and any other snappy title he can manufacture on the spot Group Affiliation: the Tenacious Ten Height: 6' 6" (whenever he assumes a physical form) Hair: inapplicable Eyes: piercing, icy blue Weight: 0 lbs Other Distinguishing Characteristics: an energy being of sorts, Captain Katabatic has no mass or form. However, his heat-sapping energy matrix generally assumes a quasi-humanoid shape, complete with arms, legs, etc... even if his translucent 'body' is of a ghostly, bluish-white coloration. However, the Captain can assume an icy physical form, of a sort. When he does so, just imagine a big, muscular Iceman and you're most of the way there. Story: The origins of the being that identifies itself as Captain Katabatic are as of yet unknown. He seems to be of extremely advanced age, and has been on earth for millennia. What he's done with this time is as of yet unrevealed, but he may've spent some time in a small city under the ice in Antarctica. Belonging to a lost race of humans that had advanced technology before the Ice Age pretty much wiped their civilization out, this small group of stragglers have struggled to survive since that era, and are doing quite well for being under a mile of Antarctic ice, really. Regardless, Captain K has lived in Antarctica solidly, for the most part, since he arrived on this world (or when his mutant powers activated, or whatever). The only things that have prompted him to leave are the times that he has become aware (somehow) of other cold-manipulating beings on earth. This drives him crazy, so much so that he'll venture forth to find said beings, and 'put them in their place'. If such folks simply back off, and admit that the Captain is the "Lord of Cold" or some such, he'll let them live, but usually such folks don't care for his neurotic pushiness, and fight back. Which is usually what the Captain prefers anyway - makes him feel alive. That's how the man (if he is in fact human) wound up working for the evil dragoness, Elys. Needing various super human minions to take care of a group of heroes that had become a thorn in her side, she revealed the existence of a would-be nemesis for Captain K, the one and only Stone Cold. This fellow is a young mutant that generates ice as a general matter of course, though he also has several additional, useful mutations. Captain K cared not about all this - he simply knew that there was another person stepping on his trademark, and he had to be put in his place. He almost stalked off in a search for the young fellow, but Elys convinced him to wait - though he complained the whole time - until she brought him to her Antarctic lair - which wasn't too far from Captain K's home. The only catch was that he'd have to help her other minions deal with Stone Cold's fellows. Since this should be easy enough, Captain Katabatic relented to this demand. When the heroes eventually tracked Elys down to her headquarters (even if it took awhile), Captain Katabatic threw down on Stone Cold, even as Elys' other minions in the group she formed, the Tenacious Ten, did so with his allies. It was a long, hard fight, but Captain K actually lost this battle!! You can imagine that, though he managed to escape with his life despite his apparent destruction, Captain Katabatic was despondent about this turn of events. As such, he simply sunk into the small town at the foot of Elys' mountain headquarters (the one mentioned earlier) and began to sulk. What Captain Katabatic has done since has yet to be revealed.
