the Kid Commandos
After the nefarious Agent Axis kidnapped Bucky and a wonded Toro (among other folks), he demanded that Doctor Sabuki perform a special procedure that would restore him to his original state. You see, Agent Axis was one man, but at the same time he was three; a freak accident had merged three Nazi operatives into one, though one with the strength of three men.
Before the Doctor could begin, however, Toro and Bucky tried to escape, and (of course) the Nazi tried to stop them. His thugs started shooting all over the place, hitting nobody, but accidentally striking a machine the other captives were strapped onto. It exploded, bathing them in bizarre energies which, in the end, granted them strange and wonderful powers.
Newly empowered, Davey Mitchell and Gwenny Lou Sabuki joined Bucky and Toro in their fight with Agent Axis and his cronies. Though the thugs were beaten cold, Agent Axis ultimately got away... for the time being. However, the four teens decided they liked working together, and as such, remained a team -- a team they decided to call the Kid Commandos! They are:
Bucky: Captain America's trusty partner, James 'Bucky' Barnes is something of a con man and swindler, and doesn't seem to have a problem getting his hands dirty to get what he wants - and what he wants is to protect the world from the Nazi scourge! Bucky comes in Classic and Saga styles! |

Golden Girl: Gwenny Lou Sabuki was kidnapped by the nefarious Agent Axis as a means of forcing her father to perform an experimental surgery to separate him back into his three composite selves. This plot backfired when a freak accident at Agent Axis' lab gave her the powers of the Golden Girl! She comes in Classic and Saga styles! |

The Human Top: Davey Mitchell was visiting an injured Toro when the nefarious Agent Axis kidnapped the both of them (he wanted Toro, but Davey was an inconvenient witness). This turned out to be an error, after a freak accident in his lab gave Davey the terrible powers of... the Human Top! He comes in Classic and Saga styles! |

Toro: his parents being exposed to both asbestos and radium as youths, Thomas Raymond wound up being born a mutant. As a teenager, he developed powers quite similar to the Human Torch, and the duo founded a crime-fighting partnership that lasted for years after their inevitable run-in. Toro comes in Classic and Saga styles! |
After their very first adventure, the Kid Commandos decided to help the War effort at home, attending War Bond Rallies and trying to stymie the various attempts by Germany to infiltrate and otherwise sabotage the United States of America. One such mission got the Commandos involved with the nefarious Lady Lotus, who had kidnapped Golden Girl in an attempt to turn her to the Dark Side.
Golden Girl had practically defeated Lady Lotus by the time the Invaders and her fellow Kid Commandos could come to her rescue. The team has undoubtedly had many more adventures in the Vintage Age; however, none of them have yet to see the light. As such, the further exploits of the Kid Commandos are as of yet unknown. They'll be seen again, however, that's to be sure...!
