American Avenger
Strength 8c |
Agility 6d |
Intellect 4d |
Willpower 4x |
Powers:
(none)
Equipment:
Lariat: Don wields almost supernatural mastery over the lariat, which he can use to grapple or entangle all manner of things, from guns (in a body's hand), people, or even large animals. Holding onto the latter, of course, may be somewhat tricky. This length of rope is of 8 material strength.
Hindrances:
(none)
Skills:
Brawling: Don's quite the scrapper, having no powers or advanced technology to fall back on. In essence, this skill allows him to inflict bloody damage while unarmed, and if he pummels a foe to zero Health (or cards), that foe won't be getting up any time soon.
Equestrian: Don's a natural horseman. He can use this skill to ride a horse with ease, and can also perform various tricks and stunts on the beast while doing so. He controls a horse with his Agility, as if it were any other vehicle (if alive).
Languages / English and Spanish: while born an American, Don has spent several years in college as an Argentinian exchange student. As such, he can speak both English and Spanish as if they were his native tongue, using both without telltale accents or grammatical errors.
Whips: while he can use any whip competently, Don's true skills shine forth in the use of a lariat. Now, while he cannot use this item to inflct damage upon a foe, he can use it to lasso objects with an average difficulty Strength (Agility) action, or people with an average difficulty Strength (Strength) action.
Calling:
Idealist: while Don has embraced his new, super-heroic lifestyle with an almost youthful exuberance, he nonetheless fights the good fight in order to stamp out any evil that threatens his adopted home. He has even gone so far as to follow such evil around the world to end it, if it acted in his homeland.
Costume:
In his role as the American Avenger, Don wore red boots, blue pants, a white shirt, a big red scarf around his neck, and a sort of black half-mask (covers his hair and eyes, but not anything else).
Personality:
Don Caldwell, the American Avenger, is quite a heroic guy. At the mere prompting of an old man, he dons a costume and uses it to fight crime. I'd say he truly cherishes freedom and liberty, and that probably shines through everything he says and does. Overall, I'd have to call him a nice guy.

Story:
After graduating from college in Buenos Aires, American exchange student Don Caldwell is convinved by the grandson of a man that fought with national hero El Gaucho to try on some clothes for him. It would seem that in this getup, Caldwell is an exact match for the long-dead legend, and the old man convinces him to become a hero.
Though he calls himself the American Avenger, Caldwell is known as El Gaucho to the people of Argentina, especially after the statue of El Gaucho disappears from town (since, of course, he looks just like the locals' picture El Gaucho). Caldwell does nothing to correct people, however, and seems to enjoy being their hero.
In his first adventure, the American Avenger rescues some locals from a strange swamp monster, which is a Nazi wandering about in a goofy costume. After interrogating him for a bit, the Avenger finds out where his fellow Germans are hiding out, and then makes for the place right away.
Smashing his way into the headquarters of the evil Baron Girbel, the American Avenger battles with his lackeys while Girbel himself escapes. Finding out that the Nazis are getting their orders from somewhere in America, the Avenger boards the next ship to the States, so he can track Girbel down.
As luck would have it, Girbel was already trying to take this ship over, and his minions had the crew cornered. Making the battle cry 'Por Liberto!', the American Avenger rallies the crew, who finally defeat the Nazis. Continuing on into America, the Avenger begins his battle against the Nazis from America.
Using the American Avenger in other stories:
The further adventures of the American Avenger are as of yet unrevealed. However, he is a colorful and interesting hero to meet in 1940s America, and would be quite handy for random encounters and the like, should a group of adventuring heroes find themselves operating in that day and age. Perhaps the American Avenger will ride again!
