Equipment:
Silver Scorpion Armor: this experimental armor, designed to give U.S. Army troops some protection on the front lines, was nonetheless modelled in prototype for Betty Barlow's body. Offering her +6 protection from harm (raising her total defense to 12), this suit has these onboard weapons systems:
* Scorpion Stingers (Energy Blast): these devices, mounted on each wrist of the Silver Scorpion armor, project a sort of pinkish energy of an unspecified type. These Stingers work at intensity 12, inflicting like damage against Betty's foes with each potent attack.
Hindrances:
Triggered-Powerless (Missing Armor): if, for some reason, Betty is caught without her armor on, she simply lacks the use of it and its capabilities until she gets it back. Oh, sure, you say that's incredibly obvious, but if we didn't tell you, you'd think you could get away with it, now, wouldn't you?
Skills:
Espionage: the secretary of a Private Dick, Betty has sort of picked up this skill by osimosis. This allows her to successfully find clues at a crime scene, operate surveillance equipment, and determine whether or not she's being followed by some interested party or another.
Calling:
Protector, occasionally Vengeance: when she first got into the heroic business, Betty was in it simply to protect innocents from harm - particularly the harm caused by criminals. However, after her boyfriend was slain by the Battle-Axis, Betty was consumed with 'getting' them - at all costs.
Now that those traitorous fiends have been dealt with, it is assumed that Betty has returned to her natural Protector calling.
Costume:
Originally, Betty wore a red and yellow costume, with a silvery scorpion on the belt and chest. Oh, and she had a flowing red cape. After acquiring the Silver Scorpion armor, however, she exclusively wore that (and the red cape, still) in her battle against evil.
As a point of reference, the Silver Scorpion armor is a tight-fitting metal suit, much more advanced than other suits in its time, like the blue bullet armor. It was rather... form-fitting, and appeared similar in design to the Shiva robot's general look. It's a neat suit, visually speaking.
Personality:
Betty came across as a spunky, freedom-loving hero. Sure, she was down in her recent appearances, due to the death of her lover, Dan, but that didn't stop her from mixing it up with the bad guys in order to fight for justice. With or without her armor, Betty's a true hero!

Story:
The secretary and girlfriend of Dan Hurley, Private Eye, Betty Barlow went to a costume ball one night as a sort of super-heroine, in a costume she made herself. As chance would have it, she wound up fighting crime for a time in the costume, having a sort of itch to battle the forces of evil.
She had an adventure or three as the Silver Scorpion, but eventually stopped the life of a heroine to return to her old job as a secretary. Soon after, her boyfriend Dan was hired to protect the laboratory of a Professor Carson, a UCLA scientist that worked on various projects for the United States government.
One of the projects that Carson was working on was a suit of armor that soldiers could use in battle. This armor, which Carson named the Silver Scorpion armor after Betty's adventuring alias, was even molded to fit her in the prototype stage; this was rather unusual, to say the least.
At any rate, Betty eventually got a fateful phone call from Bruce Dickson, the Thin Man, asking her to help the Invaders defeat a plot against America. Still heroic at heart, Betty went to UCLA, where Captain America and Miss America were looking for some Nazi villains, and she got k.o.'d by the Spider Queen.
When she came to, she found out that the super humans that knocked her out had killed Professor Carlson and her boyfriend Dan, and were in the process of doing the same to the two super heroes she was supposed to meet. Red with rage, she donned the Silver Scorpion armor!
She used it to confront the Battle-Axis, the traitorous American 'heroes' that were the source of her woe, and distracted them long enough to allow Captain America and Miss America to get the drop on them. The Battle-Axis then fled, and the three heroes followed right after.
As the Silver Scorpion, Betty accompanied Captain America, the Sub-Mariner, Miss America, and the Blazing Skull to the secret facility the Germans were using to do their evil deeds, found by following clues the Battle-Axis left while Betty was supposedly 'dead'.
They tore into the place, but were defeated by the Battle-Axis and their unwilling allies, the Golem and the Vision. The heroes eventually escaped, and ultimately defeated their foes and their nefarious plot to destroy the western coast of America with a combination of an earthquake device and poison gas.
The further adventures of the Silver Scorpion, either in or out of armor, have yet to be revealed. However, she does seem to be an interesting character, and as such, it's likely that she'll appear again. Even if it is in stories published about the 1940s hero scene in the 1990s, or even the 2000s...
Using the Silver Scorpion in other stories:
Betty had promised to turn her armor into the United States govermnent after she'd brought Dan's killers to justice, but this was never shown. As such, it would be quite easy to assume that she was continuing on as a heroine in the suit, and could be met in any number of encounters.
Like the Blazing Skull, she's centered on the west coast, in California. However, she could easily fly about to help heroes in other locations, or simply move to get in on the action with other heroes like the Liberty Legion and the Invaders. After all, the Thin Man was thinking of recruiting Betty anyway...
