Powers:
Energy Sheath / Flames: in addition to his impressive fire manipulation abilities, Jim can surround his body with a fiery energy sheath, a sheath that substitutes its power intensity (15) for Jim's strength, for the purposes for defense against attack. If Jim takes damage from any attack, however, he must pass an average difficulty willpower check in order to maintain the sheath.
Fire Control: his singular power, the Torch wields this ability at intensity 17. This allows the Torch to shoot a burst of flame from his body at this intensity, which automatically incinerates items of material strength 2 or less (like paper, glass, etc...). He can also raise existing fire sources to an intensity equal to this power intensity, or lower them by this amount. So far, he has shown these power stunts:
* Absorption / Fire: Jim can absorb an amount of flames into his body that is equal to his fire control intensity; this is intensity 17. Jim can absorb this fire from anywhere within firing range. Jim hasn't yet demonstrated any of the power stunts associated with the absorption power, though it may only be a matter of time before he does...
* Fire Elementals: Jim can conjure forth quasi-intelligent energy drones, composed of fire. These elementals function with intensity 17 strength and agility. It takes Jim one full exchange to bring these beings into existence, and they remain as long as he is conscious (or wants 'em around). They take double damage from watery attacks.
* Fire Missiles: Jim can command any existing source of flames, using it to strike out at any target within firing range of the flames. Unless he has already raised the intensity of the flame to 17 with his fire control power, Jim can only inflict an amount of damage equal to the intensity the flame already had. Still, this comes in handy as a surprise attack...
* Fire Restraints: Jim can create cages, spheres, or whatever similar shape he desires out of his or any other flames, in order to contain a person. He can do this if he passes an average difficulty fire control action, opposed by the agility of his target. These restraints will inflict no damage upon Jim's opponent, unless he crosses through the restraint; this inflicts the power intensity in damage to him.
* Flame Shapes: Jim can create 'objects' of flame, in any shape he desires, either from his own flames or from an external source. He can use these either as a form of art, or to write letters in the sky. Either way, these fiery object will remain in existence for a complete aura duration, or for at least as long as Jim continues to concentrate on maintaining their existence.
* Flight: by projecting his fire and heat behind him, Jim can achieve flight, of a sort. He can use this backward energy projection to fly at a speed of 140 miles per hour, which translates into a speed of 6, game-wise. As long as there is oxygen to burn around him, Jim can use this power to propel himself through the air.
* Heat Control: Jim can also manipulate sources of heat as well as flame. He can raise the temperature of any person or object (or everything within firing distance) by up to 170 degrees Fahrenheit; for example, he could raise a person's temperature from 98.6 degrees to 268.6 degrees -- this inflicts Jim's power intensity (17) in damage to people...
* Nova Flame: Jim could, if necessary, push his power in order to blast everybody within firing distance with his full intensity flame; this is an intensity 17 attack upon everybody within this distance. However, this also inflicts like damage to Jim, and he cannot use his flaming powers again until his full hand has been restored after this harm has been inflicted.
Invulnerability to Fire and Heat Attacks: as he wields these forms of energy naturally, Jim is completely immune to their effects, no matter who happens to be generating them. However, he still takes damage from the use of his nova flames, as they totally drain his system; this isn't fire damage so much as sheer exhaustion.
Resistances: as an artificial life-form, Jim Hammond isn't as susceptible to some types of damage as are normal humans. For instance, since his flesh is artificial, Jim has +7 resistance to disease, poison, and of course, aging; as long as he maintains his personal systems, he can continue to function indefinitely.
Hindrances:
(none)
Skills:
Energy Control / Fire: Jim has worked for years upon years in the refinement of the use of his powers, both to be more effective with them and to reduce the risk of injury to innocents while his fire is in use. He can make any action with his fire control powers (aside from his fiery blasts) at one difficulty level lower than is usual.
Law Enforcement: for years before he joined up with the Invaders, Jim was a member of the N.Y.P.D., and as such, he is familiar with law enforcement procedures. Furthermore, if he reenlists with a local P.D., he can even carry a gun and badge legally (not that he needs such things, mind you).
Military: having worked with the armed forces via the Invaders for years, Jim has a real understanding of the military mind, and what makes it tick. As such, he can attempt to lead military troops and understand the plans of a military commander at one difficulty level lower than is usually required.
Piloting: though he himself can fly with ease, Jim has been seen flying Namor's Atlantean aircraft on numerous occasions. As such, he can likely operate any aircraft produced to date, as that thing was rather advanced for its time, and he could fly it with ease.
Trivia: Jim was rather well-versed in 1930s and 1940s culture. After being taught everything he needed to know while in that cement vault by Professor Horton, and then living in that era for, well, that entire era, Jim can be considered an unabashed expert on those times.
Calling:
Vestiges of Humanity: though he's not human, Jim aspires to such a state. He does feel emotions and is fully sentient, however; he's just trying to fit in with the rest of society.
Costume:
A red body suit with yellow pinstrip around the collar and yellow cuffs at the end of the sleeves.
Personality:
It was a simpler time when a hero was expected to be an upstanding member of his community and where a man's honor and bravery were said to count for something. These are the ideals the torch brings to crimefighting. He is a good team player and a bit overprotective of Toro.

Story:
The Human Torch was created in Professor Phineas T. Horton's laboratory, Horton being one of the pioneers in the field of Artifical Intelligence and Robotics. Horton's work had focused on one thing up until this point: an android that mimicked virtually all of the functions of a human being including independent thought... he was successful with one small draw back. Whenever the android came into contact with air it's phototelectric solar cells burst into flame... without harming the android itself.
Not thinking of anything else (other then his attempt to recoup some of the money he had spent building the android), Horton announced a press conference and showed the android off in a airtight tube... releasing just enough air into the tube to cause the Torch to ignite in public. Needless to say Horton hadn't considered the ramifications of his revalations. The press went nuts and condemned this "Monster" as a danger to society, and Horton was forced to seal it in a "air-tight" container and then seal the container in concrete.
This might have worked if not for the fact that Horton hadn't thought of the Concrete expanding when it hardened. Although the Torch didn't immediately escape, enough air leaked in through cracks in the concrete and through the tube that he was able to eventually make his way to freedom.
The people of New York City were not ready for a man who was made of flame, and as such, he caused a panic. Having been dubbed (inaccurately) The Human Torch, the poor android realized the harm he was causing and doused himself in a swimming pool to stop his flame. It took some time but the Torch was able to learn how to control his powers and he even adopted a secret identity as a New York Police officer, taking the name Jim Hammond.
Horton tried to regain his invention through legal matters but the courts of the time decided that to give a thinking, rational creature back to someone who wanted to profit from him smacked of Slavery, and they overturned his appeal.
The Torch adopted Thomas (Toro) Raymond soon after that, a young boy who had been orphaned and who had powers like his mentor.
The two of them eventually joined the Invaders and served that team from the moment they joined to the moment it ended in the post war years as the All-Winners Squad. It is a little know fact, but the Human Torch killed Adolf Hitler. Surprise!
In 1949, American criminals seeking to destroy the Torch obtained a chemical soultion known as 'Solution X-R' and sprayed it all over the Torch and Toro. Taking the Torch they buried him out in the Nevada desert. This would have been the end of the story if not for the Federal Government.
In December of '53 an atomic bomb was detonated over the very spot where the Torch was buried. The radioactivity caused him to reactivate and freed him from his earthen tomb. He Immediately resumed his crimefighting career with Toro, and the two fought crime together until 1955, when the Torch realized that he was begining to lose control of his flame powers due to the radiation. Saying goodbye to Toro, the Torch flew into the desert and tried to overload his photoelectric cells again by going nova.
His body was discovered years later by the Mad Thinker, who reactivated him to do battle with his enemies, the Fantastic Four. He did battle with them and even defeated the younger Johnny Storm. But upon realizing that he had been duped and that the Thinker had plans to kill the Fantastic Four the Torch sacrificed himself for them. The body was left in the lab of the Thinker until it was given a burial sometime later.
It was believed for a time that Horton was forced to convert the Human Torch into the Vision, however recent events have come to light that have shown this not to be the case. Although the Vision was constructed from spare parts he was not the Torch. The Torch, as it would be revealed, lay in a coffin underground... he had not been dug up or made into a synthezoid.
Reactivated in the '90's, The Torch joined the West Coast Avengers and even got to meet Toro's widow, where he sadly found out that the boy he had raised as his own son had been killed trying to stop the Mad Thinker.
The Torch teamed up with Captain America, Namor, Namorita, Spitfire and the new Union Jack to briefly reform the Invaders to fight Master Man 1 and 2 and Warrior Woman. He ended up having to give Spitfire another transfusion fo blood and this time lost his powers; she, on the other hand, regained her super-speed powers and her youth.
The Torch now heads the Heroes for Hire divison of Oracle Inc. for Namor and is the leader of that team, calling upon his vast experience as a super-hero.
Using the original Human Torch in other stories:
As one of the most famous of heroes in the 1940s, the Human Torch can easily be plugged into any stories that are to occur during that time period. Either alone or with the Invaders, he can plunge into adventure in order to defend truth, justice, and the American Way!
Of course, the original Torch can also prove useful in modern campaigns, as well. You see, it was recently revealed that he still has the cells that produce his flame powers..altough they were said to have been burnt out (I find that comical) they are regenerating slowly and he could eventually regain his Flame powers.
