Jeffrey Mace is naught but a normal human, at least where fantastic backgrounds are concerned. He has no freakish genetic mutations, sorcerous skeletons in the family closet, or bizarre disciplines that have granted him super human powers. He simply fights the good fight with a one-two punch!

Guns: coming with the basic package of military training, Jeffrey has been educated in the fine art of firing guns. Whether he's wielding a standard, semi-automatic or fully automatic rifle or pistol, or even an interesting weapon like a shotgun, Jeffrey may do so at his Agility score +1 CS.

Journalism: before donning the mantle of the red, white and blue, Jeffrey was a reporter for the Daily Bugle (which was around even back then). In addition to his ability to dig up clues and solve mysteries, this talent grants Jeffrey two additional, as of yet unstated contacts in media circles.

Martial Arts types A, B, and C: an incredibly potent hand to hand combatant, Jeffrey can wield all these styles in a fight. These talents give him a +1 CS to unarmed melee strikes, dodge, escape and evade maneuvers, and the ability to slam and stun an opponent regardless of his comparative Strength and Endurance scores.

Military / United States: Jeffrey got his start in the military, where he was trained in the basic art of fighting - whether armed or unarmed. Thanks to his time in the service, he knows military protocols and procedures like the back of his hand, and has the benefit of several military contacts.

Wrestling: Jeffrey is an accomplished wrestler, and combined with his type B martial arts, makes wrestling attacks at a +3 CS, and has a +1 CS to any applicable damage. This means that if any opponent is foolish enough to get into melee with Jeffrey, he's in for a bad, bad day...

Thanks to his career before he donned his adventuring lifestyle, Jeffrey has several contacts in both military and media circles, that have yet to be revealed. Furthermore, as a member of the Liberty Legion, Jeffrey can rely upon his teammates - and subsequently their sister team, the Invaders, for aid in a pinch.

Costume:

Jeffrey's Patriot costume consisted of a blue stretch fabric shirt with a gold eagle and two stars on the chest, red gloves with a white star on each, blue trunks over red stretch fabric trousers, blue and white boots with a white star on each, and a red mask with a blue crest and a yellow 'v' over the eyes.

Personality:

Jeffrey was extremely patriotic, but not fanatically so. In fact, he'd lectured Captain America about being too extreme in his Americanism on at least one occasion. However, he was willing to do whatever he was asked to do (within reason, of course) to protect liberty and freedom from the forces of evil.

Story:

Jeffrey Mace, the man who would become the Patriot, used to be a mild mannered reported for the Daily Bugle, who happened to be a former U.S. military man. Inspired by his hero, Captain America, Jeffrey decided to follow in his footsteps and fight crime, saboteurs, and super-powered wackos in a patriotic costume.

After an incident where the Invaders were captured and brain-washed by the Red Skull, Jeffrey was approached by Bucky, who'd escaped the Skull's plot and was looking for aid against the villain. Using Jeffrey's regular radio broadcast program, the duo put out a call for help from any hero that could hear them.

In time, a series of heroes answered their call, and thus was the Liberty Legion born! These heroes included the Blue Diamond! Jack Frost! Miss America! Red Raven! Thin Man! The Whizzer! This onslaught of heroic goodness began by tracking down the controlled Invaders in order to set them free.

After several east coast battles, the heroes finally faced the Invaders directly, and managed to free them by destroying the hydrogen balloon (yow) that the Red Skull was using as a base; a base that housed the mind control equipment. After this incident, the Legion remained together to fight evil at home.

This while the Invaders continued on in their fights against fascism abroad. Of course, over time Jeffrey's team sort of blended together with the Invaders, the two groups trading members and assistance in matters when it was necessary. This course of events continued on for the duration of the war itself.
