Hand Size:
Edge:

Powers:

(none)

Equipment:

Shield:
though he wielded no equipment as the Patriot, Jeffrey did utilize Captain America's steel shield as Captain America 3. The shield offers Jeffrey (and anybody else utilizing it) +3 protection from attacks, though it can also be used as a +3 weapon in a pinch...

Hindrances:

(none)

Skills:

Boxing:
Jeffrey's a competent brawler, since his fighting skills were all he had (before he got that shield, of course). If declared, Jeffrey can split his total action score among two attacks (the second being a contingent action).

Journalism: Jeffrey is skilled at digging up stories. As such, upon making a successful challenging action, he can find out pretty much any public knowledge data (or slightly secret) information within one day. Of course, the real fun comes when digging up the buried stories...

Military: Jeffrey is a former military man, and as such, he can lead troops (or decipher military strategies) at one difficulty level lower than would normally be required by the Narrator. Of course, it also looks great on Jeffrey's resume, as well.

Shields: Jeffrey is skilled in the use of Cap's shield, though not as well as Cap himself. Jeffrey can use a shield to either defend or attack, creating as much additional defense (or damage) as the shield modifier indicates.

Wrestling: if unarmed, Jeffrey can attempt a wrestling attack. If this strength attack inflicts damage, he can attempt to latch on to an opponent with an average difficulty strength (strength) action as a contingent attack. He will then inflict similar damage the next exchange, but must make a successful hold action each turn to maintain the hold.

Calling:

Idealist:
As both the Patriot and the third Captain America, Jeffrey believed in his country, and risked his life on countless occasions in battle against the super-powered forces of oppression. He would do virtually anything to help the United States of America, though he did so with in a level-headed, rational fashion.

Costume:

Jeffrey's Patriot costume consisted of a blue stretch fabric shirt with a gold eagle and two stars on the chest, red gloves with a white star on each, blue trunks over red stretch fabric trousers, blue and white boots with a white star on each, and a red mask with a blue crest and a yellow 'v' over the eyes.

When he donned the mantle of Captain America, Jeffrey wore that hero's trademark costume. It includes a star-spangled, chain mail shirt of red, white and blue hue, red gloves, blue shorts over blue stretch fabric shorts, red boots, and a blue mask with a white 'a' and white wings on the side.

Personality:

Jeffrey was extremely patriotic, but not fanatically so. In fact, he'd lectured Captain America about being too extreme in his Americanism on at least one occasion. However, he was willing to do whatever he was asked to do (within reason, of course) to protect liberty and freedom from the forces of evil.

Story:

Jeffrey Mace, the man who would become the Patriot, used to be a mild mannered reported for the Daily Bugle, who happened to be a former U.S. military man. Inspired by his hero, Captain America, Jeffrey decided to follow in his footsteps and fight crime, saboteurs, and super-powered wackos in a patriotic costume.

After an incident where the Invaders were captured and brain-washed by the Red Skull, Jeffrey was approached by Bucky, who'd escaped the Skull's plot and was looking for aid against the villain. Using Jeffrey's regular radio broadcast program, the duo put out a call for help from any hero that could hear them.

In time, a series of heroes answered their call, and thus was the Liberty Legion born! These heroes included the Blue Diamond! Jack Frost! Miss America! Red Raven! Thin Man! The Whizzer! This onslaught of heroic goodness began by tracking down the controlled Invaders in order to set them free.

After several east coast battles, the heroes finally faced the Invaders directly, and managed to free them by destroying the hydrogen balloon (yow) that the Red Skull was using as a base; a base that housed the mind control equipment. After this incident, the Legion remained together to fight evil at home.

This while the Invaders continued on in their fights against fascism abroad. Of course, over time Jeffrey's team sort of blended together with the Invaders, the two groups trading members and assistance in matters when it was necessary. This course of events continued on for the duration of the war itself.

After the war, Jeffrey fought crime solo for a time, though in one fateful encounter he teamed up with the All-Winners Squad against the rogue android, Adam II. During this fight the second Captain America, formerly known as the Spirit of '76, was slain by the android, which deeply affected Jeffrey.

Moved by the loss of his friend and former comrade, Jeffrey himself donned the mantle of Captain America, becoming the third man to bear that title. Joined by the second Bucky, Fred Davis, Jeffrey assumed '76's place in the All-Winners' Squad, a group of former Invaders and Liberty Legionnaires active after the war.

Jeffrey remained with them for a time, either working with Bucky or, after he was seriously injured, the Golden Girl. In 1950, however, he decided that he had had enough, and Jeffrey retired as Captain America to resume his career in journalism. He basically lived a good life after this, at least until recent years.

Recently Jeffrey learned that he was dying of the cancer, and was subsequently visited by the enigmatic Elder of the Universe known as the Contemplator (the real one, not the evil Skrull doppelganger of such that stalked the spaceways for some time). This strange entity granted him his fondest wish, to fight evil as the Captain again.

Transporting Jeffrey to an alternate earth, the Contemplator watched as Jeffrey fought against a variant version of the Adam II android, who he smashed handily. Content, Jeffrey allowed the Contemplator to bring him home, and he subsequently died several months later, with Captain America himself at his bedside.
