Werner Schmidt was a brilliant, if twisted German scientist who, after developing a variant of the super-soldier serum for the Nazis, was struck by a falling spacecraft. Rebuilding their unintentional victim, these friendly aliens gave him a cybernetic body and (accidentally) dangerous psionic powers, which he used in several bids to dominate both them and the world at large!

Known Powers:

Cybernetic Full Body Conversion:
his natural, human body crushed by the falling spacecraft of the so-called Star-Gods, Werner was luckily rebuilt by these curious aliens, who mounted his brain and eyes in an indestructible, life supporting transparent dome, and replaced his body with a robotic frame. This frame was later replaced by the villainous Master, and grants Werner these powers:

* Body Resistance: Werner's cybernetic frame is highly resistant to conventional injury, shielding him from harm at Remarkable (30) rank. This defense offers him the following protection:

* Rm 30 / Gd 10 / Pr 4 / Sh 0 / Sh 0

* Brain Tank: this life support unit is what maintains Werner's remaining biological tissues. It is basically a transparent dome that houses his brain and eyes, offering his tissue matter Shift Z (500) rank self sustenance. Furthermore, this dome is virtually indestructible, being made of Unearthly (100) strength materials despite its transparency. Keen, eh?

* Resistance to Disease and Toxins: since the vast majority of Werner's body is robotic in nature (and the rest within a self-sealed system), he benefits from these resistances as a matter of course. Functioning at Monstrous (75) rank, these resistances demonstrate Werner's virtual immunity to all but the most powerful of such contaminants.

Mind Control: after grasping the Ring of the Nebulas, a device which could reportedly enhance the properties of mechanical devices, Werner's will was vastly increased, to the point that he could easily impose it on others. He can control up to eight people at a time, if they fail a psyche FEAT roll versus this power rank - Incredible (40), and force them to do whatever he wishes.

Equipment:

Ring of the Nebulas:
holding this device for a brief time, Werner could use it to enhance the properties of mechanical devices, even those that were connected to organic tissues! Items so affected by this mysterious device of dubious origin should receive a +1 to +3 CS boost to either their material strength or their operating ranks. It may have been destroyed, but it could always be rebuilt...

Super-soldier Serum: before his horrific transformation, Werner had developed a variant of the American super-soldier serum, one that could boost the strength of a person to Incredible levels, and grant them the power of flight. While his laboratory was destroyed by the Invaders and the Star-Gods, Werner could presumably recreate this formula if he chose to.

Biology:
more than anything else, Werner is a master of biology, years ahead of his time concerning such matters. In areas of biology, especially the enhancement of biological systems, he should make all reason FEAT rolls at a +1 CS to his ordinary rank.

Chemistry: similarly, Werner is good at brewing up advanced chemical formulae, which he can use for all manner of purposes. When attempting to identify, create, and modify chemical substances, Werner should make FEAT rolls as if his reason score was +1 CS higher than is listed.

Martial Arts type B: while he may not have initially had much skill in the fighitng arts, Werner demonstrated such after the Master built his second robotic body for him. In unarmed melee combat, Werner makes all attack rolls as if his fighting score was +1 CS in rank.

Contacts:

For a time, Werner served the third Reich, and as he was their supplier of a variant of the super-soldier serum, it is likely that the Nazis looked upon him with favor, and would help him should he need it. In modern times, Werner has been inducted into the Master's version of Omega Flight, and could likely consider them friendly contacts these days.

Costume:

Originally, Werner wore a Nazi uniform over his rather clunky robotic body, which he really didn't wear very well; it was kind of loose on him. Once he was found and rebuilt by the Master, he adopted a new outfit. It was a stretch fabric suit consisting of black pants, black leather boots, a purple shirt, darker purple gloves, a steel belt, and steel shoulder pads that hooked up to his brain tank.

Personality:

Werner, while a brilliant scientist, is thoroughly insane. Who wouldn't be, after having one's brain transplanted into a poorly-built machine? While he was an evil supporter of the Nazi regime before his transformation, he changed into a psychotic, would-be despot afterward, and though he agreed to serve the Master's wishes for a time, he surely will not do so forever...

Other Distinguishing Characteristics: well, for one thing, Werner's body consists of a brain and a pair of eyeballs floating in a transparent tank atop a robotic body.

Story:

Little is known about the history of Werner Schmidt, but he is known to have been an ingenious scientist who managed to concoct a viable variant of the American super-soldier serum, one that he used to make the so-called Master Man for the third Reich. However, before he could produce an army of super-powered Nazis for the regime his science supported, he got ran over by a spacecraft.

When they landed on the earth, four members of the so-called Star-Gods realized that they'd smashed somebody up real good, and wishing to make amends, they rebuilt him with their advanced scientific knowledge. Before he could adjust to his new, non-human state, these alien adventures showed Werner their Ring of the Nebulas, a device which enhanced mechanical devices.

Of course, him being such a thing now, this strange item enhanced him greatly, giving him the ability to control the minds of others. Already unhinged to begin with, this power set Werner completely over the edge, and he quickly took control of these aliens' minds. Naming them after characters in Richard Wagner's Ring operas, he set them loose on the Invaders!

However, one of these aliens, the one he named Brunhilde, managed to escape with her mind and the Ring of the Nebulas intact. She alerted Captain America to the existence of Werner and his control over the other Star-Gods, and together, they confronted the villain. In the resulting conflagration, Brunhilde destroyed herself, her fellow Star-Gods, and the Ring in a vat of acid.

The reaction of the acid, the Ring's atomic power, and the Star-Gods' dissolving energies utterly demolished Werner's laboratory, and apparently killed him. However, the fiend's brain nonetheless managed to survive in its life supporting tank for over fifty years, buried in a mountainous snow bank nearby. After half a century of entombment, he was finally rescued by a nearby skier.

Soon after, he attempted to sabotage the 'First Pan-European Conference on Super-Human Affairs', as he felt the conference would eventually cause the creation of a global peace that ran counter to his own goals. You see, though no longer serving the ideals of the Nazi philosophy, Werner nonetheless wished to conquer the world, and a divided populace would be easier to defeat.

Taking control of several super heroes at the conference, Werner met his match in Aurora, a member of Alpha Flight whose multiple personalities proved too much for his mental powers to dominate. She grabbed his brain tank (which he'd managed to smuggle into the conference somehow) and threw it far, far away, causing him to lose control of his victims and really ruining his day.

Werner was eventually found by the evil Master, however, who made sure that Werner didn't suffer another fifty years under an avalanche. Building for him a new, more streamlined robotic body, the Master brought Werner in as a member of his team, Omega Flight, and in gratitude for rescuing him, Werner indeed served as a member of this villainous group for a time.

He participated in two separate schemes of the Master's, both of which brought the group into conflict with their opposite number, Alpha Flight. These Canadian heroes more than proved their match, and Omega Flight was soundly defeated on both occasions. After their second defeat, Omega Flight was either captured or disbanded, and Werner's current whereabouts are unknown.

Using Brain Drain in Other Stories:

Well, since he was trapped for the majority of World War 2 under an avalance caused by the destruction of his old headquarters, it is most likely that Brain Drain wouldn't be able to appear in any vintage age stories, unless they occurred in a variant timeline. As the Master has recently rescued him and rebuilt his body, however, he can easily show up in modern schemes of the Master's or his own making.
