Solo Villains

Though not as notorious as, say, the Super-Axis or Battle-Axis, most of these lonesome villains worked by themselves to further their own agenda, be it that of the Nazi regime or their own twisted aims. Many of these fellows were merely second stringers, and had a rather unremarkable criminal career.

However, a rare few of these terrors have managed to turn the world on its head. Global nightmares such as the Red Skull have not only caused unimaginable havoc in the Golden Age, but survive to do so in the present day! Known solo villains from this age include:

Agent Axis -- Classic Style!
Agent Axis -- Saga Style!
Agent Axis: this nefarious intelligence operative of the Axis powers was in fact three separate spies to begin with - one from Germany, one from Italy, and one from Japan. However, after their plane was struck by lightning, all three were merged into a single, solitary master spy - the one and only Agent Axis! This heinous villain acquired countless secrets from the Allied powers for his diabolical masters during the second World War, and once they were dead and gone, he continued to cause all manner of problems for the world on his own, until he was recently slain by the heroic Thin Man! Comes in Classic and Saga styles!
Asbestos Lady -- Classic Style!
Asbestos Lady -- Saga Style!
Asbestos Lady: the mysterious villainess known as the Asbestos Lady (though formerly the Asbestos Girl) is a shrewd man-hater, though she hates one 'man' above all else - the android Human Torch! After humiliating her time and again with embarrasing defeats, and then jailing her brother (who was later hung for his crimes), the Torch has earned a special place in the Asbestos Lady's heart. She will stop at nothing - nothing - to see him dead, no matter how many twisted plots and diabolical schemes she must develop in order to make her goal a reality! Comes in Classic and Saga styles!
Brain Drain -- Classic Style!
Brain Drain -- Saga Style!
Brain Drain: Werner Schmidt is a brilliant, if morally dubious scientist who has developed a viable variant of the American super-soldiers serum - it was almost an improvement, really. However, his genius is rarely recognized, as he was crushed by a falling space-craft soon after this great breakthrough, and rebuilt in a terrifying robotic body. Acquiring dangerous mind control powers soon after, he cristened himself the terrible Brain Drain, and set out to conquer the world! Though inconvenienced by being buried for fifty years under crushing snow, he works to attain his goals to this very day! Comes in Classic and Saga styles!
the Cold Warrior -- Classic Style!
the Cold Warrior -- Saga Style!
the Cold Warrior: while working on a new cryogenics technology that would give the U.S. another weapon in the war against communism, Professor Will Sinkovitz gained the attention of an earth-bound skrull who, seeing that he could be turned against the 3-D Man due to his rabid patriotism, helped him complete his work years ahead of time. Rechristened the Cold Warrior upon donning his cryogenic suit, Sinkovitz then attacked 3-D Man, thinking him a communist menace, though he was defeated - if barely. Little has been heard from the Cold Warrior since...! Comes in Classic and Saga styles!
Iron Cross -- Classic Style!
Iron Cross -- Saga Style!
Iron Cross: the man in the Iron Cross armor is one Helmut Gruler, a hard-boiled German nationalist who, despite his disagreement with Nazi policy, still suppored it throughout the War; after all, they were the main power behind Germany at the time. After attaining his deadly armor, Helmut wound up launching various schemes that were ultimately thwarted by various Allied heroes, from the Liberty Legion to the Blazing Skull. After the war, however, Helmut realized the error of his ways, and in an attempt to make up for his villainous ways, joined the mysterious V-Battalion in its war against evil! Comes in Classic and Saga styles!
Matsu -- Classic Style!
Matsu -- Saga Style!
Matsu: the mystery man known to the free world only as Matsu is an intelligent, dangerous Japanese spy and saboteur who serves the Emperor of his land with a truly ruthless efficiency! He's particularly dangerous in that he doesn't seem to let his personal feelings get in the way of his job, which allows him a cool-headed cunning that puts him at least one step ahead of his enemies in most encounters. Though he has been defeated by several of America's heroes to date, most notably the Human Torch, Matsu always bounces back, and may show up to cause trouble again! Comes in Classic and Saga styles!
the Teutonic Knight -- Classic Style!
the Teutonic Knight -- Saga Style!
the Teutonic Knight: a famous religious fanatic before the outbreak of World War 2, Franz Gerhardt firmly believed in the tenets of the Teutonic Knights, a German religious order that disappeared off the face of the earth centuries ago. He worked hard to bring the group back, but when the Nazis took over his homeland, the patriotic man was torn between his faith and the good of his homeland, he snapped. Donning a suit of medieval golden armor, and proclaiming himself the reincarnation of Komtur, the Teutonic Knight, Franz began a crime spree that almost befuddled even the mighty Invaders! Comes in Classic and Saga styles!
Tiger Man -- Classic Style!
Tiger Man -- Saga Style!
Tiger Man: when his arms were crushed and removed in a factory accident, Hertz began a regimen of exercise that should have just given him the ability to live by using his feet and teeth instead of hands. Instead, his exercises changed him, transforming him into a veritable, armless Tiger Man! Obsessed with the destruction of all things mechanical, Hertz began a one man war against all factories in his native Germany - until the Gestapo caught him, and subsequently turned him loose in America. Once he arrived, his obsession caused him to be discovered by the Angel, who quickly defused his bizarre plots. Comes in Classic and Saga styles!
