You drank, and you drank, and as you drank and watched the fight, things
seemed to degenerate as you seemed to want to drink more. Things got
sort of blurry as the battle between the demonic minotaur and the
demonic lizard gt all hairy.

As flayed limbs flew all over the place, you drank a little more, and
probably a bit more again, but you're not sure - it's all a blur, now.
All you know is that you're laying on a stone floor, and you feel like
somebody is stomping on your head.

You try to open your eyes, and wen the maneuver fails, you are forced to
operate the offending members manually, prying them open with fingers
that seem too sticky to be yours. Once everything comes into focus, you
see that you are in a cell.

Frank's lying over there, most of his head being bandaged up. Looks
like somebody hit him hard. And repeatedly. He's leaning up against
the bars of the cell, as are about eight other people of rather seedy
looks, who are also quite wounded.

You get the impression that you drank way too much...

"Well, Jinx, I don't have all day. What are you and your senseless

Crimebuster feels more than a little uneasy about the decision he made asking the Hobo to watch on Pinpoint but is nevertheless much more at ease than before. Wondering aloud on the powers that the Hobo has he says "...bad penny, that one" in a voice just loud enough to be heard if anyone is standing around him.

In order to find his focus again he will find an unused area of the ship and
practice a kata designed by Master Lee that was meant to expunge the anger that marked his youth. If there is no suitable area (suitable defined as not going
to hit anyone/thing living with Achira) he will find an area to rest and meditate in.

Out Of Character Notice: Okay, I'm a boob, but the one time I neglect
to proofread one of my posts, I make a boo boo. For reference, the
following sentence should indicate A-Lonse the crazy Varakni guy, not
your recent extraterrestrial nuisance, Cracklin' Mad Pinpoint:

> Now, you just have to pinpoint where in Madagascar Pinpoint has his
> lair, and where he's going to try and knock the earth off its proper
> rotational axis.

Er, sorry about that. Anyway.

As you ask about the computerized simulation, Ari, the pilot shrugs at
you. "Oh, sure. I'll pull up the holographic emitter there in the
passenger bay, so you can see a top-level view of Madagascar. By the
way, ma'am, the name's Harry. Harry Maximillian."

Seconds later, there's an intricate illusion of the island nation of
Madagascar hovering in the center of you all, all save for Crimebuster,
who's meditating in the back. You see the various jungles, urban
centers, and vanilla fields in the land.

However, in Harry's image, purloined from spy satellites orbiting the
earth, you spot something of an anomaly in the country. It's daytime
there, but it would appear that a significant portion of the island's
northern tip is covered in a cloud of darkness.

As Harry zooms in closer with the image, you see several giant smoke
stacks belching out foul fumes around a central spire, one which appears
to have a giant canister of... something resting on its top. Even at
this apparent height, you can see the spire is hollow.

As if the canister were meant to drop from its height down to the
earth... and make quite an impact.

"That's all I've got for you guys right now. I'll have to fly over the
place personally to take any energy readings; your satellites don't have
the equipment I need to make a specific analysis, but you can kinda see
what's going on there right now, neh?"

You climb up on top of one of the houses across the street from your
target domicile, and set to. Once the cops leave, and another half hour
passes by (a bit longer than Hazzard thought, but no biggie), you spy a
car driving up to the house.

Three people get out, one of which bears a striking similarity to your
pal Antonio. They look at the house, get in their car, and start to
drive off, when you see Hazzard driving opposite them on the road. He
parks in front of the house, and then walks around it.

You note that the car holding the apparent Antonio has parked down the
street, and is watching him. Hazzard makes a good show of checking the
house out, and then drives off on his jeep. The three goons then turn
their Caddy around and follow him.

You, in turn, then deftly leap off of the house, jump on your ride, and
follow as well, though at a respectable distance away from the villains
in question. Hazzard leads them to his hotel room, at which point the
trio jumps out and beats the snot out of him.

They kick Hazzard's guts in but good, and as he lies there on the
ground, you see him winking at you, all conspiratorial-like. The goons
then pick him up and throw him in their trunk. "Ha! Stupid old man!
We've got plans for you...!"

They then drive off again, leading you to another house in the
desiccated urban sprawl of Sioux City. The three goons get out, extract
Hazzard from the trunk, and then drag him inside, leaving you alone out
on the street.

What next, chiefie?

You see that the structure, about a mile high (counting that strange
barrel) is surrounded by some sort of energy screen; you see the
faintest blue outline surrounding the strange, polluting facility in the
air, almost in an oval shape - or half of one.

Looking out the window, and alternating between it and the hologram, Och

It is obvious from his tone of voice that Crimebuster is truly taken to

Given the weapons and power available to us I would think that we would be able to power through, however that option also leads us to announcing our presence. sage looks at the two of you, narrows his eyes, and begins chanting at

little crystals and other doo-dads on his head gear, and incants.

You feel power spreading from his fingertips towards you, into you,
through you. And then, all too suddenly, it ends, leaving the two of
you feeling somewhat emptied. "I see. It would appear that the two of
you have been charged with the energies of time itself."

"This force seems to be preventing you from accessing your magical
powers properly, young one. I suspect that, until you have cleared
these energies from your person, your plane shifting sorcery will fail
you. Unfortunately, I know not a body who could remove them."

"Well, I know of one, actually, but... but I believe that it was she who
stole the book you seek, along with her noseless toady. She is the only
chronomancer known to the Fraternity of Order, after all, and she was...
less than enthusiastic with our efforts to study her magics."

The sage pauses, looking almost sad at the missed opportunity to acquire
more knowledge about the way the world works. "Hm? Find a portal
yourselves, you say? Hah! Well, then, all you would need is a team of
highly trained Fraternity members, with the proper equipment."

"Unless you wish to find some of the barmy Xaositecs who claim to be
able to find a portal leading anywhere you wish to be. However, I hear
they dump more than their fair share of clueless berks like yourselves

"So. You could wait some time for us to recover our knowledge of the
portal you seek, consult a highly reliable Xaositect source and go to

"The choice is yours."

Harry listens to your plan, and hearing something akin to a general
consensus, he sets his craft down about a quarter mile outside the
barely visible sphere of blue energies surrounding the bizarre
structure.

Looking on, you find it exceptionally hard to see through the haze that
the giant smoke stacks are generating; the crud they're spewing seems to
be just drifting down, coating the air in a chalky, smoky fashion that
leaves you short of breath.

And it is quite hot here... at least one hundred degrees - and that's
outside the energy barrier!

You're here, though. Plans, anyone?

You find one lone guard hanging out at the side door to the place, and
you take him out in relatively short order, whipping him around the neck
and waiting for him to fall unconscious; since he was having a deep drag
from a smoke when you roped him, that wasn't too hard.

Checking out the rest of the house, you look into a window towards the
back and find two thugs tying Hazzard up, him looking more than a little
bit worse for the wear. You can see that he's one tough bastard,
though, 'cause he must've planned for this.

You leap into the house through the window, which was already marred by
at least one gunshot wound from some other incident, and catch the two
thugs tying Mark up totally off guard. Only one has a gun handy, which
you easily lase out of his left hand.

As he screams and howls in agony, the other picks up a bat and swings it
at you, 9. The dude cracks you a good one in the stomach, giving you a
whole Typical (6) Blunt Attack damage, though you ignore this, roping
his pal as he tries to flee the room.

"Argh!" Snagging his feet with your whip, you drop him hard - face
first - into the rotting wood floor. As you reel him in, a smear of
blood trailing from his face to his current locale, his pal swings at
you again, giving you Good (10) Blunt damage this time.

Lasing his bat, you cleave the wooden instrument in two, and leave the
guy speechless. He starts to back up, but gets hit on the back of the
head by... something. As thug number two falls, you see Hazzard
standing there, holding a gun in palm.

"Ya didn't think I'd be totally unarmed, did you?" You find that you
don't really want to know where he hid that little Colt, but somehow he
got it past the goons who worked him over. "You all right, buddy?
Those hits looked like they hurt..."

Word. Let the cosmic rewind button be pressed, so that the V.C.R. of
life may play Ending Number Two...

"Very well, then! May your wish come true! Ah hah hah hah!" The
diabolical Calypso waves his hands to and fro, causing an impressive
display of purplish electrical energy to flow forth. His energy
discharge forms a window to another place, for all to see.

Looking at the window, you see one Roy Shijitzu, working diligently on
whatever it is that he does. He seems to be wielding a big red stamp,
and when he presses it on some schematic labeled A.S. 11, you see that
it says 'denied'. Roy stamps it several times for effect.

Then, as if noting that he was being watched, Roy stopped his manic
stamping, looking around nervously. His eyes squint, as though he were
looking for something very, very difficult to see. That's when he looks
up. "Jinx!"

Calypso laughs at that, and then pulls the figurative trigger, pointing
his finger at the man in the energy window and saying "Make him go
away." The bolt of energy passes from Calypso's hands, through the
window, and apparently cross-country, striking Roy instantaneously.

Roy just looks at you in impotent rage. "Bitch!" And then, suddenly,
he's gone. Not a corpse with smoking hole in his chest cavity, not a
black smear with smoking boots on top, but gone. Vanished. Made To Go
Away. "T'would appear that he's been totally negated, Jinx."

Calypso then turns his back to you in dramatic fashion and walks away,
fading all the while. As he pulls his own vanishing act, you hear his
taunting voice chuckling at you. "Thanks for playing, Jinx. See you
next year! Hah hah hah hah hah hah!"

The laughter echoes into the night, until the sounds of the city
eventually swallow it up. Sounds like police sirens, ambulances, fire
trucks, and various metropolitan disaster control vehicles on the way to
see what the heck just tore up a small portion of L.A.

That's when Clutch wakes up. "Urgh... what the Hell just happened? Why
can't I date normal girls??"

lands, explodes, flies way into the air, comes down several times, and
by the time he's done, he's got himself a big ol' hole in the ground.

You see him down there, laying on the earth as random dust kicked up

about thirty feet deep. Assuming that this force field thing doesn't

You wander off into the night, having nothing but bad feelings about the
imminent future. Things about bad Karma and so on, especially
concerning how your particular brand of luck works, Jinx. However, you
do manage to avoid the flood of city vehicles coming this way.

You eventually get back to the hotel, though it takes the two of you
hours. Once there, Clutch simply drops into bed, leaving you to wonder
just what's going to happen next. After all, you still have no idea
what happened to your newfound 'friends' back under New York City.

Much less how you got here...

                                   ***

Meanwhile, across the length of a nation, deep in the heart of
Pleasantview, New Jersey, a shift in power has taken place. The former
head of a powerful corporation's American headquarters has vanished, and
somebody in the know has instantly stepped in to take his place.

Instantly.

You see, Roy Shijitzu was a powerful psi with certain aspirations in the
area of world conquest. In order to accomplish his goal, he's made a
habit of surrounding himself with other people with super human powers
like himself.

One such person, his personal Accountant, has the ability to cloud the
minds of others, and seeing his opportunity for greatness, simply
claimed Roy's position. So, even though his former boss and master has
vacated the universe, he would live on - even if in name only...

                                   ***

Meanwhile again, proving once more that nature abhors a vacuum, the
universe realized that there was suddenly a sort of Roy Shijitzu shaped
hole in causality, as the magic Calypso used to negate the man is, when
you get down to it, quite unstable.

So, mere moments after his Accountant seized his earthly position, Roy
Shijitzu manifested anew in the universe, though he did so in a world he
never made. Sensing this immediately, Roy looked around with his
psychic senses, and found out he was in a bad, bad place.

He was surrounded by aliens... hungry aliens. Aliens with eight
tentacles and an unfortunately hyper-efficient digestive system...

                                   ***

Hey, Jinx. Essentially, it's been about three adventures since you got
any of your Karma, so it's about time I got back to you on that. So,
since I've been negligent in that regard, feel free to hand yourself
about 1125 Karma.

That woulda been a bit more, but the whole incidental property damage
thing has hampered that a little bit. Well, quite a little bit... but
still. Merry X-mas. Just gimme a holler telling me what you think
Jinx'll do next, and I'll pick up from there, natch?

Anyway, Denny, Jinx would probably collapse onto the bed and sleep for hours before trying to wake up Clutch. Once he was awake she'd try and work with him to figure out where to go next. If he planned on returning to G.I. Joe HQ, she would ask if she could join him. Even if she couldn't enter the complex, she'd still want to travel with him. If given the chance, she'd want to get patched up and see if she could get training in CPR/First Aid.

So, that being said, she'd spend 1000 Karma on picking up First Aid as a skill. She's sick of not being able to take care of herself, and with her bad luck, it sure comes in handy!

If she has enough XP left from all of her adventures, I'd like to buy her at least a couple of points of Reason, trying to get a bit closer to that Gd 10 Rank. She's been exposed to quite a bit of tech and new things (like magic) and I think she may have improved her ability to think things through.

Just let me know what's up.

Thanks!

You see nothing but abject darkness.

That's been the case ever since you got back to New York City with
Clutch, Jinx. Having stated your desire to head to G.I.Joe headquarters
with your erstwhile ally during that whole Twisted Metal debacle, he
called ahead to clear that with his boss.

Once Hawk heard that you were on board Clutch's bus (since the V.A.M.P.
was totaled in L.A. days ago), he decided he definitely wanted to get
his hands on you - for better or for worse - in order to debrief you
considering your role in various disasters these last few months.

Once the two of you hit the City proper, several other Joes met up with
you and proceeded to give you a more than thorough search of your person
than you'd have liked. Hell, they found two bugs on you that Clutch
didn't back in L.A. - primarily 'cause they were IN you.

One was lodged in your colon, thanks to a sesame seed bug slipped into
your person thanks to a McDonalds episode before the whole string of
events caused by Morbis, and another had been some sort of bacterial
audio / video transmitter you picked up somewhere - its origin unknown.

The Joe who performed these tests, the one and only Doc, was quite
professional about the whole thing - the only reason you cooperated,
however, was because it gave you an opportunity to get rid of the two
bugs you simply had no knowledge of.

Once that was taken care of, and you had the opportunity to recover from
your disheveled state, the Joes blindfolded you and proceeded to drive
you around Manhattan for several hours while making repeated turns and
playing exceptionally loud heavy metal music.

The point is that, though you're sure the Joe base is somewhere in the
New York area, you've got no idea exactly where it lies. As the
blindfold is lifted from your eyes, you find that you are in some sort
of underground complex - one full of Joe vehicles!

Looking around, you see several fellows hanging out, doing general
maintenance on their tanks, jeeps, motorcycles, and laser cannons (?).
They seem oblivious to your presence, primarily because you're here with
Clutch and Doc, but secondly because of your escort.

You spent the entire ride in the company of an absolutely silent fellow
who, after seeing him for the very first time, you find was wearing a
black, commando-style outfit that completely obscured any hint of his
features - save for his impressive physique.

Once you get used to the idea of being able to see again, and regain
your ability to walk (restored after the restraints you wore during the
trip here were removed), Clutch and your mysterious escort led you to a
special interrogation room where Hawk awaited you.

"Well, well, well. Look who we have here?"

You climb up into the superstructure under the force field, thanks to

the tunnel that Rebound manufactured, and find that the door is indeed
locked. Not wishing to wait any longer, you charge the thing, only to
be stopped at the last second - when it opens on its own.

As the door swings open, you spy the glint of metal as reflections from
the blue force field's aura shine on whatever lies within. Of course,
the six of you spy several automatons walking towards you, since you've
made your presence known.

"Argh! Not more robots!" That was Och, of course, who looks at the
mechanized sentries with more than a little bit of disdain, as does
Tammy. "Damn! I hate robots!" The two get ready for a fight, as
there's more than a couple of the robots to go around.

For reference, the robots are seven feet tall, each being covered in
heavy armor, with extra covering over their vital areas, like elbows,
knees, groin, and shoulders. Their left arms each have some sort of gun
barrel in place of a hand.

And they just look mean. Worst of all, however, the sentries seem to
have but one thought on their mind - that being the only word that
passes across their lips. And that word, of course, is frighteningly
simple: Destroy!

Hawk doesn't look too happy with your bitter wit, but then, he's a
military sort of guy. Sure, the impression of him that you've gotten in
the time you've been stuck working with him - first during that whole
Plantmaster escapade, and now this - is favorable. But still.

"Hmph." Hawk then nods to his assistant, a woman with long, red hair,
who proceeds to walk over to the chair proffered to you, and deposits a
bevy of photographs. "This is what's left of Los Angeles, Jinx. Clutch
already told me the story, but I want to hear it from you, too."

Looking at the pictures, you do indeed see that the place looks like a
small tornado shoved its way through, and you see several hints of the
battle that went on - even a few of the wrecked vehicles. Of course,
you know it would've been worse if you and Clutch weren't there.

The trick is convincing him. You're sure that won't be too hard, else
you'd be chained up, but this still seems like a 'for the record' sort

still military...

"Gackg!"

Mark doesn't sound too thrilled at the whiplash you just inflicted upon
him, but then, that may just be because of the suddenness of it all. As
you leap out of the house with him in tow, the bomb strapped to that
fellow detonates mightily, enshrouding you two in its fireball.

The sheer force of it is enough to propel you straight through the
neighboring house and into yet another one - amount of force inflicted
upon you is enough to cause Incredible (40) Blunt Attack damage to your
person, but you survived.

Mostly because the two of you landed on a thickly padded futon, which
broke some of your force. Further, you seem to have cushioned Mark from
most of that damage, since you were pushed through the houses FIRST. He
only suffered Remarkable (30) Blunt Attack damage.

But then, he's not artificial like yourself. In fact, he looks a bit
under the weather, but that doesn't dull his reflexes any - or his
inherent alertness. "Car." Looking out the window of the house the two
of you just wound up in, you see it, too.

You see some dude looking out the window of a big ol' limousine,
pointing and laughing. They then drive off slowly, as if savoring a big
victory. It would seem that somebody thinks the two of you didn't get
out of that house in time...

"!"

The first robot seems somewhat stunned as Rebound runs at it screaming,
and explodes off its chest as he charges it. It looked impressive, yes,
but the man was simply deflected as though he were a toddler, and pushed
about four feet back into his own little trough in the dirt.

This gives the twelve robots the opportunity to issue forth from the
facility, circling around the lot of you and doing their level best to
take you all apart... bit by bit. In fact, it would seem that your
automated friends are ganging up on each of you!!

However, this does leave some room for showboating.

As you face up to your first opponent, Crimebuster, you move with an
almost magical, fluidic grace as your blade sweeps around one of the
robotic antagonists you now face. The chi-enshrouded blade makes a
dramatic arc through the robot's arm and then neck, severing both.

The 'bot falls apart in a spectacular shower of metal and sparks. Of
course, his pal doesn't seem all that happy about you taking his pal
apart, and he shows it by firing his laser at you in a slow, methodical
cutting arc meant to cleave you in two!

Catching you before you can evade the cutting beam properly, the robot
lases your leg, giving you Remarkable (30) Armor Piercing damage before
your defenses (if any - don't have your vital statistics handy). And it
smarts... oh, does it...

Mere feet away, Stone Cold, you transform and assume your glacial look
as you absorb ambient moisture (though there's not very much handy) and
produce a blade of super-hard ice with which to cleave your artificial
foeman into itsy bity little pieces.

Taking a swipe at the first of the two which are currently menacing you,
you hack into the thing's shoulder, right where it joins with its neck,
causing black hydraulic oils to sputter out madly, the mechanism quickly
losing its ability to move as such.

It tries to get a shot off at you, but its motor functions are too
weakened by your strike to make it get even close to connecting. As it
falls, its compatriot takes a similar shot at you, though it isn't so
hampered in its movement.

Its cutting beam inflicts Incredible (40) Armor Piercing Energy damage.

A bit further back, you also find yourself menaced by a dastardly duo of
demonic department store rejects, Ari. They attempt to circle around
you, but fail utterly when you utilize your personal defenestrator in
their general direction.

You pull the trigger on that technological terror, and training the
thing on your tenacious targets, you give them pause when you emit the
characteristic sound of defenestration. One ear piercing wail later,
the 'bots are in pieces - scattered all over nearby real estate.

But the defenestrator seems to be out of juice... it's got a blinky red
'tapped out' indicator flashing, and has pushed a little three-prong
power plug out the bottom, attempting to give you a hint. Luckily, the
other automatons are currently busy...

For instance, they seem to be wanting to take poor Rebound apart, both
of them training their cutting lasers at him and firing before he can
get out of that little trough his failed assault landed him in, and both
connect, inflicting Incredible (40) AP Energy damage to him.

You feel the twin lasers cutting into you, Rebound, and don't feel all
that good about it since your ablative defense doesn't seem to be
helping you any; the impact-less lasers hurt a LOT. Of course, you're
still alive and kicking, and the 'bots seem confused by this...

As you plan your next move (plan - you?), you see Och dealing with his
foes efficiently. They don't quite seem equipped to properly deal with
a foe of his size, and with that magical, golden axe of his, he's simply
chopping them off at the knees - literally.

Once he drops one of the 'bots, he just hacks its laser arm off, and
hits the other one for good measure. As he does so, Tammy just picks up
one of the automatons and uses her telekinesis to literally turn it
inside out, and wields its innards as weapons against its partner.

Jinx settles down in the proffered chair and begins laying out the details of the contest out to Hawk.

"Yeah, the contest seemed like a complete psycho-fest. We can hope that
most of the contestants either ended up in the hospital or the morgue.
At least then you'd probably cut out half of the World's Most Wanted
Criminals (TM).

They weren't just psychos, though. They were psychos with Stuff (TM),"
she explained.

"I was lucky enough to get dropped into the whole mess and find Clutch.
Clutch let me know he was there to limit the damage caused by the
contest and said he wouldn't mind my help as long as I went by the book
during the operation.

I agreed and we set about trying to find the most effective, yet
Non-lethal methods of control that we could come across on such short
notice and without someone who could pull equipment out of his- well,
out of nowhere, sir," she censored herself as she continued.

"They had some people involved in this contest who had things that just
aren't commonplace pieces of equipment: cybernetically enhanced goats,
cars that transform into robots, pig iron trains with rocket launchers,
rockets with handlebars, flaming skulls, APCs, demons. You name it!" she
listed off, occasionally pointing to the wreckage and damage left behind
by the things she mentioned.

"But the guy who topped it off was the ring-leader, Calypso. He's a real
winner. He said he could grant any wish, but that I had to make it
snappy. As Clutch was still reeling from the combat, and I wanted to
keep him out of anything that might be considered immoral due to the
nature of the contest, I took him up on the offer. I wished for Roy
Shijitzu to go into financial ruin. Hell, it's the American thing to do.
If he's a true capitalist, he'll just buy his way back to the top," she
justified.

She would continue to detail the occurrences, describing each contestant
and his/her/its vehicle, explaining some of the odd pictures as best she

Feeling the sting of those savage attack lasers, you take steps to
ensure you don't have to deal with them again, Stone Cold. Icing up the
ground underneath your robotic foe, you reduce its mobility enough to
prevent it from dodging your icy blade strike!

You manage to cut it mightily, the frozen water inflicting further
damage as it moves through the robot's torso, causing its power systems
to fail horribly as it sputters to a stop before you. As an after
thought, you kick the thing as far away from your person as possible.

It sputters to a stop about sixty feet away from you, quite broken.

Having dealt with your foes, you find that your allies are similarly
mopping up in their efforts to defeat these soul-less opponents. For
instance, Rebound seems to have gotten a little angry about being shot
up by those lasers himself, and is positively throwing a fit.

He flings two of his sticky strands at each of his antagonists,
detonating them at the feet of each robot, and causing both to fall
prone before him. The man then hops up on one of them, bouncing
repeatedly until the thing looks like an oversized aluminum can.

The other one is still kicking, though it can't currently attack.

Meanwhile, that new fellow, Crimebuster, looks at his remaining robotic
foeman as though sizing it up, and makes his move before the thing can
react. His swords glows with an eerie, supernatural green light, and he
pries his blade into the robotic guard's torso.

Once the blade is in place, its energies coursing through the body of
the automaton, he makes these horrible looking motions with his wrist,
carving the machine up from the inside, and causing it to collapse into
inactivity before his very feet.

You'd hate to see that happen to a real person.

A few feet away from your person, you see that Tammy is having a field
day with her foe, generating something of a whirlwind with her
telekinesis and, wielding the parts of one smashed up robot within,
using it against another, battering it to bits.

Och, on the other hand, is simply hacking away at his robotic enemy with
a chilling precision and efficiency, making it simply cease to exist as
a singular entity, and rendering it into its component parts and
pieces.

As he finishes, Och turns to deal with the last robot standing, the one
that's still attempting to menace Rebound, when another robot exits the
compound. This one looks different from its fellows, in that it has
additional armor plating covering its entire body.

It looks big and menacing, about nine feet tall, and its left arm is
comprised of about six different weapons, each looking enough to kill
ten men with a single use. It seems to be gloating at the lot of you,
busying yourselves with mere minion-bots.

"Hah! Foolish humans! Let it be known that you have slain the lesser
kinsman of 13, the one and only sentry created by the almighty A-Lonse,
and - hargck!" The robot seemed on the verge of letting into the lot of
you all, but stopped suddenly, and you quickly see why, Stoney.

Having already dealt with her foes, Ari fished into her bag in order to
find something else useful, and produced a grenade. Not just any
grenade, however, for this one is a robot-killer. It's got 'Box o'
Scraplets' chiseled onto the side, and she just threw it.

Unfortunately for the self-described 13, the grenade is also magnetic,
and just attached to its torso. It screams "Aargh!" before the thing
opens, and once it does, these tiny little nuts and bolts fly out of the
thing, and embed themselves into its frame.

"Argh! Not fair! Not! I'm not even self-actualized yet! Noooooo!"
13 falls, literally consumed by the tiny things breeding inside its
frame, these little nuts, bolts, gears, and widgets that seem to be
transforming into tiny robots and seeking out the other twelve guards.

Within about thirty seconds, there is literally no trace of the thirteen
robots that were sicced upon you, leaving the lot of you with a big mass
of tiny little, cannibalistic transformers. That's when the grenade
explodes.

It sprays the area with an impossible amount of water, which then
dissolves the tiny little robot-eating robots, leaving you with naught
but a bit of rusty sludge on the ground. That seems sort of extreme,
but then again, you have no more robots in your way...

Jinx nods to Hawk after his comment about not being in the contest,
"Right. I haven't been in LA in a couple of months. I wouldn't know
anything about any automotive disasters."

After Hawk's offer to clean the slate after taking a look at her clips,
Jinx takes out the two clips for her guns. One is empty after quite a
bit of use, and the other is still mysteriously full due to it being
scrounged up during the Twisted Metal contest. Carefully, she eject 5
shots from the full clip and slowly loads the empty clip.

Rolling the once empty clip around in her fingers, she slips the one she
picked up during the contest back into the appropriate location on her
utility belt.

"Here, I don't mind considering the two of us even," she calmly stated
as she slid the clip across the table to him.

"Let Flash know not to expose those shells to a strong magnetic field
outside of the clip or something used by a demolitions team to safely
detonate explosives; they're likely to go up in his face if he does,"
she cautioned as she leaned back in her chair.

"Yeah, I didn't get as smacked around as Clutch did, but I could
definitely use some patching up. Actually, if you've got someone who's
got the time, I'd like to get some basic medical training. It never
hurts to know how to do some first aid out in the field in our line of

The six of you enter the building, assuming that you follow
Crimebuster's lead, and find the place has an impressive lack of ambient
lighting. In fact, it's hard to make out anything in the stygian,
soot-filled darkness.

Then, out of nowhere, you hear a large whirring from above, and you feel
the air being sucked up and out, though it is easily replaced by fresh
air from ventilation shafts underneath you. The net effect is that it
simply clears out the coal dust floating around.

Then the lights turn on.

Looking around, you find this facility is empty, save for a massive
spire in the center, one that resembles an elevator shorn of its outer
skin, and high up on the ceiling, you see a barrel being lifted up by
four powerful pistons, each wired to a corner of the building.

"Welcome, welcome, welcome!" The voice sounds full of sheer hatred,
though it does sound more than a little bit familiar... at least to
Rebound, Stone Cold, and Tammy. "I was wondering if you'd turn out to
spy my masterpiece. Behold!"

"That lift, powered by the four power plants outside, are lifting that
barrel of synthesized neutronium up to a mile in height. Once it
reaches its apex, the barrel will simply teeter off, and the resultant
impact will shatter your pathetic human society forever!"

"The world will be knocked off its axis, and the land of my people will
be shunted to the fore, while your pathetic super power nations will be
blasted by ecological mayhem into a veritable dark age! Won't that be
nice? Won't that be... poetic justice?!"

"Ten feet to go, my friends, and your world ENDS! Ah ahhahahahahh!"

A-Lonse seems to have lost his marbles, but then, he wasn't so sane when
you first met him. Furthermore, the world he built in the future wasn't
such a nice place to be, either. So, the question is, how do you deal

(not wanting to share... I see how you are... =)

Hawk does so, and over the next week or so, you do receive proper first
aid training from both Doc and Stalker, the Joe team's resident doctor
and field medic, respectively. It's a horrid crash course involving
plastic dummies and horrible accident tapes, but it's worth it.

You're now a qualified field medic, and it only cost you 1000 Karma!

At any rate, once you've completed your training, you have also healed
up from all the various injuries that have been inflicted upon your
person over the last couple of weeks, and are now all better. So, once
you've finished up your business in the Pitt, the Joes let you go.

Of course, it involves taking the same, circuitous route to loud heavy
metal music on your way out, and once you're there, Clutch hands you
over that clip you gave Hawk. "Flash couldn't find anything special
about your clip, Jinx, so he gave it back. It isn't even reloading."

"I guess it's out of juice or something." He gives you a curious look
for a second or so, and then hops back into the truck that he and that
Rock 'n Roll fellow used to drop you off. "Well, gots to go save the
world 'n all. You understand, right?"

(theoretical response space)

"Oh, and here's a hundred, should you need bus fare or something to one
of your safehouses, babe... take care!" So, unless you've got any
parting shots for Clutch, the two Joes take off for parts unknown, most
likely back to their underground headquarters.

Wherever that is. But, now that you're all by your lonesome in the
heart of New York City, with naught but your guns and your Flash brand
debugging kit, what next? Are you planning to head back to the Direct
Action Americans, or do you have something else in mind?

Tammy looks up at the barrel and concentrates. "No dice, folks, that
thing's too heavy for me to even budge. I guess that's why the guy
needs those massive hydraulic lifts to make it move. Maybe we should
just reverse those lifts or something?"

Of course, that would require locating a control panel. As Stone Cold
heads outside, in order to set up a massive ice ramp with which to
attempt to roll said barrel of synthetic neutronium to a softer landing,
you walk around the fifty foot thick lift mechanism, Rebound.

Opposite the entryway to this particular establishment, you finally spy
your target, manning a massive control booth and looking quite happy.
"Oh, swell! You finally decided to actually LOOK for me, did you?
Imbecile! Prepare to meet your doom!!"

Looking at A-Lonse, you see that he still wears the scars inflicted upon
him during his last mix up with the lot of you; those infected
lacerations being particularly nasty looking. Of course, what looks
even nastier is that huge suit of powered armor he's wearing.

"Did you really think that you could approach my domicile without my
noticing? That I wouldn't have time to prepare for your pathetic
assault, that I wouldn't arm myself in order to slay you forever?" It
takes a second, but you recognize the emphasis on the word 'forever'.

That's when a powerful flash of light erupts in the room behind you,
from which eight high tech goons, in uniforms you recognize from the
future, walk through. "Your highly armed female friend may have
destroyed our experimental time platform, but we fixed it!"

"After the scientist who invented it sent your pilot friend back to
fetch you in space, my elite troopers in an eon yet to come seized the
device and came back to warn me of your interference with our plans.
Prepare to die, Rebound. These men really, really hate you."

Looking at the thugs, you realize that more than their uniforms look
familiar. These men all appear a little bit bruised and battered, as
though they'd recently been... beat up. Beat up, say, in a battle in
Antarctica a bit back... yeah, you remember some of THESE guys.

However, you still don't know what he means by heavily armed friend...

What do y'all do?

With that, Hazzard steps on the gas, and you get the distinct impression

inoperable, and Hazzard simply charges into the venerable boat with his
even more venerable Army Jeep, smashing the thing up real good in the
process (the car, not his Jeep).

With that, Hazzard then leaps out of the car, a pair of Uzi 9mm hand
cannons in hand as the thugs come running out of the strip joint,
pulling out their guns and such all the while. "Hey, you scumbags!
This is PAYBACK!!!!"

Mark opens fire, gunning four of the goons down with center-of-mass
spreads before you even hop out of the Jeep. "I mark at least two more
morons inside, aside from our man. That's assuming that he doesn't have
any more thugs waiting that we didn't see."

"Sound about right to you?"

headquarters, what with it being a place he'd rather not be under any
circumstances, and assuming you follow, you both find your way to a
small tavern in the Lady's Ward.

One that serves lunch.

After getting a plate of bread and cheese, Frank settles down to eat.
"What? You hang out with bariaur long enough, you get used to a

continues. "So, you up for a trip to Clueless Square?"

You take a cab to where you know the Direct Action Americans' backup
headquarters is, and upon your arrival, you are heavily scanned by
various instruments after walking into the 'out of order' stall in the
ground floor of some nameless office tower.

After the scanners do their job, the back wall slides inward, taking the
toilet with it, and allowing you access to the secret elevator, which
takes you about five floors under the fake foundation of this building.

Once your ride ends, you find your boss waiting for you. "Hey,
everybody, it's Jinx!" He raises an eyebrow at you and frowns. "Where

robotic friends trashed our more upscale base..."

The tired looking pilot looks at the two of you, and sort of grins.
"Well... I am zipping through the general area, so I suppose I could
drop y'all off on my way to Munghus y Munghus. Just head on over to
docking bay 2, and tell the minder that Cletus sent you."

"S'at work for you two?"

Assuming you say yes, the two of you walk around in an effort to find
the second docking bay, an effort hindered by the fact that none of the
bay labels are using anything remotely close to English. However, a few
akward moments of asking for directions yield results.

You find your way to the bay, and find that it is an access for one of
those really BIG ships linked up to the Way Station. You know, about a
mile long, with big hydrogen collecting fin-things that stretch
vertically about as far.

Of course, there is a really big fellow barring the way in. It is
another robotic fellow, consisting of a metal sphere about two feet in
diameter, with about ten extendable tentacles linked up to it, each of
which has some sort of grip, weapon, or tool attached.

It looks at you and squauks for a few seconds. What next?

"Very well then!" The Guvner walks out of the chamber for about ten
minutes, and then comes back with a roll of parchment. "This is the
route you will need to take in order to return to your home world. I
will have our map-makers produce a duplicate of this one for you."

"One for each, actually, should one of you not survive the arduous
journey before you." The Guvner pauses to let that sink in. "As you
can see, this route takes you through four different planes, but the
portals you will require are all somewhat close to each other."

"Relatively speaking. Now, the keys for each portal, should one be
necessary, are indicated on the map. We will provide two keys for each
portal, again for the aforementioned reason, as well as any special
items you will need to survive on the planes you will be visiting."

"Now, as the map indicates, the first plane you will visit will be
fourfold furnaces of Gehenna, for which we will provide you special
rings that will offer you resistance to realm's fiery effects. Once you
locate the next portal on your path, you'll arrive in Carceri."

"Hopefully, your stay on the darkest, coldest layer of this plane will
be short, for you must find your way through the palace of great Apomps
in order to exit the lower planes proper, and find your way to the
quasielemental realm of ice."

"You will need special rings for these planes, as well, which will offer
you resistance to the intense cold that these realms offer. The realm
of Ice will be a very short leg on your journey, however, as the portals
in and out of that plane are all in the same structure."

"After exiting the realm of glaciers, you will emerge into astral plane,
wherein you must seek out the corpse of a dead god of travel, he who is
Aoskar, whose body can be used to travel virtually anywhere, even if his
formerly immortal corpse floats adrift in that non-space."

"From there, you will find your way home. My subordinates will have a
travel pack ready for each of you, along with a map and portal keys for
the both of you, prepared within two hours. If you wish to wait, that
is fine, or you may get refreshments as we prepare for your trip."

A-Lonse prepares for your charge, Rebound, but doesn't reckon for your
last second dive at ALL. You catch him with his proverbial pants down,
and detonate against the ground with enough force to pop him about forty
feet into the air. "Waaaaaugh!", he says.

That's not the best part, though. Y'see, that impact has knocked you
back into the ground, causing you to bounce into the air, also. So, as
you fly into the air, A-Lonse hits the peak of his flight, and falls
back down - right into your flying frame.

"Arghhhhgh!", he says as you bounce him even higher into the air with
another explosive strike. You come down hard yourself, putting several
small craters in the floor as you bounce to a semi-controlled stop, and
when you do, A-Lonse lands on his control panel as desired.

It explodes in a spectacular spark shower, to which A-Lonse laughs...
never a good sign. "Hah hah hah hah hah! Foolish human! The only
thing on this planet that could've stopped my machine was that control
panel! Nothing can save your pathetic society now!"

"Your foolish friends cannot stop it, not with their pathetic ice, or
mind over matter. You are dealing with neutronium! Nothing you do will
stop the four power plants I've erected around this place from raising
that barrel to the desired height - and dropping it!"

"Ah hah hah hah hah!"

As A-Lonse gloats, you whip out a can of whupass, Crimebuster, flinging
those 'specially coated' shuriken at the small legion of thugs brought
into the present by his machinations. You even hit four of them in
their armor's weak points, dropping them immediately.

As four of the thugs fall, you reach into your magical sack yet again,
Ari, and this time, you don't quite pull out anything as useful as, say,
a scraplet bomb or a personal defenestrator, but instead draw forth... a
can of Serious String (TM).

Yes, Serious String (TM).

You arrive at the control panel with your can of Serious String (TM),
but find that the thing does seem totalled, save for maybe one terminal
on the thing (the other four boxes, and their monitors, are smashed).
Luckily, nobody's paying attention to you.

'Cause they really are taking their frustration out on Rebound and
Crimebuster. The four remaining goons open fire on the two of you,
letting loose with their hand held plasma cannons, but they have to be
careful with their fire; don't want to damage the merchandise above.

Most of them wind up missing you guys. However, one does tag you with a
grazing blow, Rebound, knocking you across the structure, but doing on
actual damage to your person; it just managed to spin you around whilst
the force of the hit detonates you all over the place.

You're okay, but a bit away from the action... and it looks like Ari and
Crimebuster still have four more thugs to deal with - and one A-Lonse.
Oh, sure, Tammy is still trying to work on the barrel, out of spite, and
Och is keeping two thugs busy, but still.

And you have no idea what Stone Cold is up to outside... hm...

As you look at the machinery, Ari, you see that the exposed stuff
primarily consists of four immense hydraulic pistons, lifting that
barrel of neutronium (or so A-Lonse said) up into the sky. You don't
see any other machinery, per se.

But, there is four pipes sticking out of the ground, heading from the
pistons out to the corners of this structure, presumably to those four
immense power plants situated around the building. Could be hydraulic
fluid, could be immense power cables... who knows?

Before you can do anything about it, however, you find that you've been
menaced by a thug. He moves to hit you with his gun, but you break out
the Serious String (TM), and spray him in the face with the gray, boring
stuff. You can see why it has the name; no neon, no fun.

But, what happens to your opponent is somewhat amusing, however. He
staggers back, having Serious String (TM) in his eyes, and you hear
Rebound yelling at you to duck. When you do so, he slams into the
blinded thug and launches him clean into the lifting pistons.

He bounces off with a plastic-on-steel sort of clang, which almost makes
you laugh. Meanwhile, you see Crimebuster venting on the other three
goons A-Lonse has brought back from the future, swiping at them with his
freaky cracklin' blade, and causing some serious damage.

Two of 'em drop after being struck by the sword, falling more from the
shock of the chi energies coursing through it, rather than the actual
edge itself - not that the sword strikes were anything to shake a stick
at. So, that leaves one goon and A-Lonse himself.

Who seems to be getting back up, and is red with rage...

And so on and so forth, all the way through the square. And though the

"Har! Clueless berks! Go back from where yer came from!"

sure enough, entire parties leave from here quite often.

You also see that the place is about eight stories in depth, as you're

Crimebuster visibly blanches at the lack of effect his attack had on the madman. Thinking that there must be a better way he turns to the control panel and tries to see if he can make anything out of it. If possible he is looking to re-hook up the BIG RED BUTTON control that was probably smashed....but then he thinks that A-Lonse has probably rewired that button to drop the barrel immediately. Crimebuster then looks for the secret emergency kill switch in hopes of hooking THAT up....

Jinx looks around the "dungeon," noting the anachronistic discrepancies. Then she turns her focus onto the person with whom she was having a conversation with.

"Oh, yeah, I guess not. I didn't see you were actually in a cell; ya never know when a jailer might be about," she explained.

"Ahom, eh? I know that guy...Syde doesn't ring a bell, though, but you never know. I might have run into her at one time, too. Do you happen to know where I can find Ahom? If you're nice I'll see what I can do about getting you out of that cell," she offered.

Ronin raises an eyebrow, but says nothing.

> (snip)

After a long (1 wk) silence, Ronin looks over at his comrade then nods to the sage. "I believe we will refresh ourselves as this trip appears that it will be anything but easy. Are you sure that these 'talismen' are all that we will need? I would no want our venture to fail because we were not fully prepared."

Once the sage replies and all parties are satisfied, Ronin will head off and get refreshed.

Unless those guys downstairs can't figure out anything else to do.

Rebound does his best imitation of a panicked PC and starts trying to do something, anything to stop this thing. Not having a better idea, he will start banging on one of the pistons hoping the resulting rhythmic explosions will shake it out of line or something to that effect.

"Stop! you stupid pile of metal!"

"Ahom, hm? Well, he showed up here a few days ago, much like yourself, and
started muttering something about temporal energy charges, seventh dimensional focii, and all sorts of weird things. Then, he said some weird thing about, well, about an alteration of the past that spun this timeline off of his own."

"And then something about how being charged with this temporal static pushed
him into my plane of reality or some such. I tried to help him out, but he
was in too much of a hurry to get out and 'set things right', so I didn't
get to warn him about the huge security drone..."

"I think the bot carried him upstairs, into the interrogation rooms. You
can probably find him there, lady." You look at the fellow, your reflexes
slowing down enough, now that you can see that he's no threat, and find that
there's something odd about this duck. He's transparent, for one thing.

And you can see an almost tangible cloud of vapor descending upon him from the ceiling, almost like a super hydrator... which could go a long way towards explaining the large amounts of dank in this here dungeon, you suppose. "So, lady, you want my help in avoiding the security bot? I don't bite..."

"Work? Oh yes, oh yes, these talismen are of the highest caliber. See?" The old man pulls out a small box containing two rings, which are seemingly made of ice. "These two rings have been carved out of ice from the deepest reaches of the paraelemental plane of Ice, and given powerful enchantments to resist heat."

"They will keep you cool even in the heart of a star. However, they are not
infinite in their power, and once activated by a powerful burst of heat,
will only be good for forty eight hours. That should be enough time for the two
of you to make your way through the vulcan plane of Gehenna, and out again."

"These other two rings," and again, the Guvner pulls out a special box, "Have themselves been forged from molten iron collected on the elemental plane of Fire. Their orange metal has similarly been enchanted to provide warmth
against the most intense waves of cold, unto the darkest reaches of Prime Material space."

Whatever else they are, the rings are pretty neat, in that they are made from seemingly solidified fire, the bright orange metal almost glowing in the cool dank of the sage's chamber. You get the impression that these rings are even more special than those offered to protect you from the apparent heat of Gehenna.

"They will not expire, unlike your rings which offer you proof against flames. Since most of our operatives are unwilling to explore your interdicted earth, we would consider the rings a gift, a gift offered above and beyond what we already provide the two of you in giving you the way home - and for activating the seeker stone."

"Unless there are any other questions, I will see the two of you in two hours, at the entrance of the City Court, upstairs." With that, the wizened sage of the Fraternity of Order then nods, and shows the two of you out, at which
point a minder escorts you back upstairs, and then outside.

Hoping to get something to eat before heading on this monumental mission,
Ronin, you find that Masque has naturally gravitated to the nearest eating
establishment, a sort of underground tavern / restaurant nearby called the
Thirteen Factols, and determine that whatever else he's capable of, Masque
can find good food ANYWHERE.

Anything else to say before you head out on your way?

(hey, don't worry about it, Scott, I've been horribly remiss in being on
time with you guys... =)

As you look at the controls to the would-be World Destroying Device,
Crimebuster, you see Ari feel around inside her odd sack o' plenty, and
after about six seconds, she pulls out a Thug brand Three Foot Length of
Steel Pipe, With Optional Rust For Effect (TM).

She then shrugs, and starts beating those odd pipes that run up to the
big hydraulic lifts with her Pipe (TM). Seeing her working on this,
Rebound starts his own little bit of demolition, and starts jumping up
and down on one all his own, making big ol' explosions all the while.

Before you can find some sort of master abort switch or some such, the
explosive one breaks through one of the pipes, and the resultant impact
shoots him straight through the roof. Looking closer, and hearing the
hissing sound, you can see why.

That pipe IS full of hydraulic fluid. Considering what it's lifting,
the oil must be under an incalculable amount of pressure, what with its
load being able to alter the world's rotational axis. And, since
Rebound broke one, the stuff is starting to come back out... with force.

It's so hot and so pressurized that it's actually starting to cut through Stone Cold's ice dome up top, and boring a huge hole in the thing. That's when you hear the screaming. "No! No!! Noooooooo!" Before he can retort to your insults of his mother, Stone Cold, A-Lonse freaks.

"You've ruptured my hydraulic lines! No! It took me a month to build
those up to critical pressure in order to lift the neutronium! I'll
kill you, you fools!" For reference, Stone Cold, A-Lonse is waving his
fists at Rebound, who seems bound for stratospheric heights.

And he's not even paying attention to you anymore...

You literally smash your way into the dressing room of the strip club,
and you find Antonio is right in front of you. Before you can lift a
finger, he smacks a girl right upside her head, and then jerks back,
looking all confused. "Hey, what? Who? What's going on?"

Meanwhile, the girl he hit is laying flat on the ground, looking rather
stunned as well...

The man looks at you as though you'd genuinely insulted him. "But
sir!! I've only encountered your kind on one earth, and by far every
one I've met here on the planes has claimed the lands of Io, Lord of
Dragonkind, as their home! However, if you don't believe me, that's
fine..."

"I'm sure there're plenty of other right good planewalkers to guide you
home. Fair travel, friend..." With that, the man turns to walk away,
looking for other denizens of earth who need a ticket home. What do you
do, Magus?
