As the boisterous bravado of Masque attempts to fill

twirls the dual bastard swords that remain constantly
at his service.

Yet pauses from attacking...

A cursory glance towards the leather garbed fellow is given for a moment.

> "Hey..I heard that."

"It is indeed the... nutjob, you did say?... that brings
me to this strange place," Magus replies just out of
Masque's earshot, "That and the tasty mead."

> "Hey Magus....what say we get to the library. I am

Glancing towards the self-professed 'vampire hunter'
then towards the bloodsucking Mos Quito, Magus looks
towards Masque as if to inquire silently to leaving
such...intriguing...fellows alone.

Mos Quito reaches into one of his many pockets with quite the flourish, and produces a pencil. Not even a mechanical pencil, but a classic Numbah Two, freshly sharpened, and with a brand new eraser. "Will this do, oh wizardly one?"

Slightly to the left of you, the man in leather smirks. "Yeah, Corona will do in a pinch, but you know." He then takes a long, long drink of the so-called Tequila that he ordered, and after he finally manages to swallow, simply says "This works better when hunting.

"Oh yeah."

He then drops a twenty dollar bill on the bar, and starts to 'walk' towards the door. "Well, Magus, if that's your name, it was a pleasure to meet you, but I've got to get to work. In case I don't make it back, hahah, let 'em know that Ultra Xiang gave 'em what for!"

He then passes through the double doors, shakes his head, and mutters "Now, where's that library again...?"

While you're in the process of blinking, Gunslinger, the bartender
vanishes, only to magically appear next to you, holding a
drink. "Here." He then pulls out a gun, and fires it at the doorway, the
green beam passing right under the twin doors.

You notice that the guy stops crackling with greenish electricity at that
point. "There... had to bleed off some build-up. Now, you were saying
about this defense against time folk...?" It seems everybody likes to make
object lessons about this sort of thing.

"I know what you mean about the other you's getting you in trouble... seems
to always happen with us 'core' Gunslingers. Some jerkweed from the far
end of the time stream shows up with his pie-shooting guns, and all of a
sudden us real us's get the bill for it... Huh.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the bar (funny how all interesting things seem to
happen in bars lately, eh?), Moebius looks back at you, Charlie, and
nods. "Yeah, I know what you mean. For instance, brainiac here just
signed his own death warrant..."

Before either of you can see what's going on, a gray-skinned Gunslinger
variant gets himself floored when Moebius kicks the legs of his chair out
from under him. She then stands on the time-different Gunslinger's throat,
and sneers.

"I am NOT your baby, and if you ever grab my ass again, I'll shoot your
freakish noseless face clean into the next timeline. GOT IT?" You imagine
the guys is nodding, but it's hard to tell, really, what with his shaking
so much from the FEAR.

Moebius has that effect, though, on most sentient men.

Meanwhile, the one female Gunslinger whistles at you, Charlie.

Jim shrugs.

"Well, to be honest, there's not too much to tell about my Atlantis. By
the time I was born, I was about the only one left, really. Pollution from
the world above had pretty much rendered all Atlanteans sterile. Didn't
happen to me, but then, I was the last one.

"See, by the time I was eighteen, everybody else had died of cancer. For
some reason, I seemed more resistant to the stuff - it just made me
somewhat sick, but I got over it in time... hm. Other than that, the city
was pretty much the same as the one you saw.

"All the beautiful crystalline buildings, the creative organic style
electronics, and even the weirdo, ground-breaking vehicles that ran on...
something else besides electrical power... it was something else. It's
something that human technology hasn't hit on yet."

Jim stops to pause for a few minutes, then picks up again.

"It's weird. I was hoping to move in down there in Atlantis, start again,
you know? But the more I think about it, the place is as alien as the
surface world is to me these days. I'm thinking maybe I should just stay
away, seek out my own road for a time.

"Or something." He then stops for a minute, and says "Hope I'm not being
too depressing there..."

The lot of you work your way down the circular stone stairwell, conversing all the while, and as you hit the bottom, you no longer feel the effect of the copious amount of space heaters above; in fact, it's quite a bit chilly down here.

At the base of the stairs, you can see some sort of cart... it's not a 'dolly' but a cart, used to haul something HEAVY, from the look of the gouges in the ice on top of the stone this cavern was chiseled out to. They lead back to that formerly square ice chamber.

As you get there, Och starts poking around, now that the formerly molten ice is now frozen again. "Ari, I doubt that you have such a device, but do you have anything here that can track... unique energy signatures? Perhaps something in your 'special' bag?"

As he inspects the lumps of ice here, those that mostly came from the ceiling above, you see that the gouges in the ice lead from the tunnel you came from into a side passage that you guys hadn't explored before - there were four entrances to this chamber, after all.

The trick, though, is that you could've sworn you saw somebody watching you from that one, Stone Cold, someone who vanished into the darkened tunnel of ice once you looked that direction. Makes you wonder if some sort of shenanigans are going on...!

Ultra Xiang does, indeed, stumble to the entrance of this quaint little drinking establishment, and makes his way out into the much cooler night; it seems that there's much more hot air inside the place than out.

As you're also headed that direction, Magus, you can see that, by the time you get to the doors as well, that the man is definitely not alone; while the streets were deserted earlier, you sense folk in the shadows.

It takes a bit, but focusing on the background, and looking where you'd hide if you were looking to ambush somebody, anybody, on these mean streets of Seguridad, you spot them.

They look like people, but ... not. Focusing in on one of these nefarious folks (and naturally, they're nefarious, for they're hiding in the shadows of a small town, apparently looking for trouble), you see the difference.

Normal human don't have horribly exaggerated, almost demonic features, after all. And, unless they're albinos, they're not so pale, either. You spy at least six of 'em. The drunken Xiang doesn't seem to, though.

He falls over in the middle of the street shortly thereafter, looking as though he were trying to stand in the midst of a 9.0 strength earthquake - and failing. He then starts singing.

Were you from this world, or even something resembling a nearby variant timeline, you'd have possibly recognized it as something by a group called Prodigy. Something about "smacking his bitch up".

As he sings along in an apparent stupor, he catches your eye for a mere moment, and if you didn't know better, you could swear he had winked at you. That's when the skulkers-in-shadow start to move...

Meanwhile, in the bar, you can hear the horrible, horrible crooning of the man outside, Masque, but find yourself beset by the company of the one and only Mos Quito. "So, friend. What's that you're drinking?"

In your dark, dank interrogation room, Rebound, you seem to have caused
some sort of confusion amidst the ranks of your would-be
interrogators. "Um. Sir, this isn't Agent Dicey..."

This causes something of a commotion. Another voice spews out
surprise. "What the hell do you mean, it's not Dicey? You activated the
right interrogation module in the Agency's brain pool, didn't you?"

This causes you bunches more mumbling, arguing, and indistinct hoo-hah. It's hard to make much out, really, what with them all shouting over each other, but this mention of 'modules' and 'brain pools' makes you worry.

And, for some reason, your mouth tastes waxy.

After about five minutes, somebody seems to have figures something
out. "Sir. We did activate the right module, but something seems to have
jammed it... a sort of abnormal brain wave pattern broadcast."

"But we haven't seen anything like this since '76..."

Another commotion ensues, which ends with "Fine, fine. But then, who's
implant did we connect to???" Suddenly, one of your interrogators walks up
to you, and looks sort of alarmed.

It's the smart one.

After you say your peace, he seems quite worried. "Sir... um. I think
he's aware of what's happening here...!"

Then you wake up.

***

Elsewhere entirely, give or take, you get your bearings and feel yourself
indeed flying through space, Jinx. Oddly, though, breathing isn't a
problem, nor is the harsh vacuum of space - much less the radiation.

Then the voice calls out to you again. "Aren't you listening, Jinx? Or
would you rather me call you by your real name, Natasha?" The voice lets
this sink in for a few moments.

"Yes, woman, it's me. Your old friend." With that, you see something
ahead of you, something... writhing. It looks like a couple worms at
first, then more, then more again.

By the time you're close enough, the writhing mass appears to be an entire
world made up of large, sticky tentacles. They seem to remind you of
something, of a wish made, and granted, in the recent past.

That's when you connect the dots!

Roy Shijitzu!

As you begin to fall towards this living world before you, you can see the
man's face begin to form in the gibbering mass of flesh. "Yes, you vile
wretch, I didn't die like you thought I should.

"Oh, yes, my body was consumed, but my MIND lives on, residing in one of
these pathetic carnivorous things you intended to be the death of
me. Hah! My intelligence cannot be denied!

"And, now that you have contacted me, I have a good idea where the earth is
once more... and I'm coming for you, Natasha. Oh yes. And, once I deal
with that fool Calypso, we'll spend some time together.

"Oh yes, indeed..."

Mere moments before you are grappled and subsumed into the tentacular mass
before you, however, you wake up. With quite a start, I might add.

***

The two of you seem to wake up at the exact same moment, only to realize
two very unwelcome facts: you seem to be restrained several feet off the
ground, and this is being done by what appears to be solid light bands.

"Good morning, my little sleeping beauties. I do apologize for the
accommodations, but my little friend here, A-Lonse, doesn't seem to hold
the two of you in very high regard.

"In fact, he wanted to kill the two of you - you especially, 'Rebound', the
instant I rendered you unconscious with my mind-blowing holographic light
display. I talked him out of it, though."

He then sits down on the desk of a computer console in this rather dark,
dingy room, and ... removes his head. He does a weird finger motion on the
mirrored facet of his disco head, and it disassembles itself.

Mirrors stack and fold themselves in neat, tidy rows, and retract into a
central base, taking several small devices with them. By the time this
dance of mechanical genius is done, you see the man beneath.

And he is indeed a relic of the seventies, if ever there was one. The man
has an afro that makes his head appear about eight inches in diameter
larger than it should be. And side burns. BIG ones.

He puts the compact form of his disco head in a pocket, then picks up a few
folders. "Interesting information, this. It's amazing how much I was able
to bring up about you, my young lady."

"Corporate saboteur, high tech vigilante, and... Direct Action American. I
used to know a few of you - you were good people. And you." He looks at
you, Rebound, and grins a face-full of grin.

"I AM impressed. It's not easy to hide oneself as well as you did. No
finger prints or DNA records in any government database on earth match
yours. I even tried your dental records..."

That would explain the waxy taste.

"The only way I could even figure out who you COULD be was to do a complete
MRI scan on you, friend. While I still don't know your identity, I do know
that you work for - or used to work for - the NSA.

"Did you know you have an implant in your brain?"

The bartender smiles at that. "No problem, fellow Gunslinger. There's a
shop about six doors down, on the other side of the street, that

"I figure they can upgrade the apparatus for you easy enough, assuming you

Regarding Moebius, she just eyes you with the same look she gave the other yous. The FEAR, Gunslinger, the FEAR.

Before she can swallow your soul, though, you tell Charlie where yer going, and then go before any more of you decide to hit on Moebius. Who KNOWS what their guns shoot, after all.

As the female Gunslinger drags Charlie off to a nearby hotel, the rest of you meander to the proffered shop, and once you walk in, you see a man behind a simple glass counter, if it's really glass.

He's an old guy, looks like he could be Mario's grandfather, complete with the suspenders (but no cap). In the counter, you see all manner of timepieces, from sub-skin readouts to sundials to hourglasses.

Behind him, you see a workshop with larger things in it, from cars to big brass and wood spectacles to organic squishy things to stuff that even you can't quite recognize all that easily.

You see you're in the workshop of a true expert.

Now what?

Not quite sure how to put it, he simply shows the guy his watch and asks...
"Can you make this better...defense-wiser. All it does it allow me to travel through time..."
Scratching his chin,
"Or..do you have anything that could provide defense against..say..some time traveler who might want to pound me 'inbetween' seconds..."
Not really sure how to relay what he wants, he asks Moebius,
"Could you kindly explain to him or show him.....?"

Och laughs at that, Stone Cold. "Well, of course I have one, I just

(TM) and shines it in the direction of the tunnel.

Against the light blue ice, rendered an eerie dark crystal shade in the
almost-dark of the ice tunnel, you see a fellow with remarkably pink skin,
at least on the face, go 'eep' in fear.

He turns around and flees before you can say a word, but with all the heavy
cold weather clothing he's wearing (it looks like three layers of
snowsuits) you can hear him a mile off.

Swish swish swish swish.

Meanwhile, you dink around with the AES, Ari, and you manage to get it
working, at which point it starts talking to you - in a curt voice... and
in Japanese. Regardless, it's on.

And displays about twenty different energy signatures. It seems to have
dials for time, power, type, and whatnot, but you don't know which setting
displays what. At least, not yet...

bored by the conversation, so I decided to investigate and see what there
was to see. Indeed there were some strange footprints and what have you
about. As I was following a particularly peculiar set of footprints, I was
assaulted by a number of what I have come to know as Atlanteans. They
accused me of destroying their world of all things. Despite my genteel
manner, things quickly escalated. I fear they felt themselves to be more
than a match for a simple man. Unfortunately for them, I am (as you well
know) no simple man. The contest of wills and abilities ended rather
swiftly, but not before their leader had actually harmed me...even through
my force field. Truly embarrassing. I now understand what you meant about
needing to work on it some more....a good lesson."

Geoffrey pauses in his recounting gauging Yogi Samuelsen's reaction so far.

"After I soundly defeated their leader, he explained himself to me. It
seemed that Slow Jim here was considered to be some sort of prophet
announcing doom and gloom at the hands of the 'surface dwellers'. Jim is
from another timeline completely, so they misunderstood him. In any event,
I accompanied them back to Atlantis and after some more scuffling with our
timeline's version of Slow Jim who was behind this whole intentional
misunderstanding, the Atlanteans were set straight and Jim here decided he'd
much rather cavort amongst the 'surface dwellers' than the Atlanteans.

Before Magus can even draw his blade, you zap the ugly, albino-types with your reflex magic, and before you even hit the ground in your clumsy combat trip-o-matic, the nefarious folk go 'away', Masque.

To space.

Somewhere in outer space, at any rate.

You get the impression that people on that there international space station might be in for something of a surprise, perhaps. But then, that WOULD be the price for their technological skullduggery.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

As the oblivious wizard comes to a stop at the base of your feet, Magus, you see the vanishment of those folk that were skulking about, and you note that your 'friend', Ultra Xiang, did as well.

"Hey, you dumb bashtards!" You note the extraneous 'h' in 'bastards'. Must be the 'teQUEEla'. "I had 'em all shet up for my midnight shshpecial... grr. Now I gotsh to find more vampiresh."

As Xiang looks around, you both hear yet another voice behind you. "Aha! And yes, I, Mos Quito, must seek out the werewolf. For, after all, it is late, and I seem to be long in the tooth, so I must be hungry!"

This prompts a look from Ultra Xiang. You imagine, Magus, that this is the way you look when you're giving Masque that look that you do. As such, you recognize that look rather well, Masque.

You get the feeling that you're not the only one cursed with freak company, Magus.

Regardless, Ultra Xiang then gets up, and ambles down the (now) empty Seguridad streets. "Now, where'sh that library..." He's walking in what you can only describe as a sort of teetery style.

i, the mighty charlie chicanery, am finally recognized
for my importance. Even if i have to foot the bill
for this particular exercise in dumb.

"Okay. If i am springing for this, i'll pay for
the... the things. You know, those things that'll
protect us from evil time traveler-whatevers. But i'm
not springing for a time controlling device for you,
ding dong, that sounds more expensive than i care for.
On the other hand, o venerable master time working
guy, is there any way you can build a time travel
mechanism into this staff for me? Now, THAT i can
spring mightily for. And i won't have to worry about
being stranded in, say, the stone age by these two
bozos. Oh yes. And i can wipe out ESE before they
get off their feet, and do all sorts of nasty insider
trading. Yes... i can even buy Enron stock and sell
it JUST IN TIME. Whee. Yeah."

Hm... lemme think.

"Okay. i'd imagine that what i've got might not be
enough off-hand, but then, i don't know what you're
looking for. So, i guess i'se gots approximately
fifty million in the bank, a nice penthouse apartment
in Manhattan, a few trinkets from here and there
across the universe, and two big jugs of temporal
lubricant or something. i got hired to acquire it,
but the jerks i used to work for didn't pay me for it.
Any of that sound good?"

(i hope so - i could do SO much more damage with time travel too)

Of course, if all else fails, i can be a sex pet for

Jinx cheers you on as you wiggle to and fro in the floating, solid light
bands, Rebound, and since you can't throw some sticky stuff, you start
hacking a loogey at the dazed Disco Head. It blows up in his face, causing
him to scream out in pain.

"Argh!"

This prompts several thug-types to enter the room, thugs who have the same,
pinkish skin that A-Lonse does. They're wielding what appear to be cow
prods, and they proceed to zap the two of you senseless and drooling. Bzap
bzap bzap!

As the daze from the stunners wears off, the two of you see that Disco Head
has also recovered from his own stupor. He wipes the blood off his lip,
which apparently happened after he smacked his head (apparently bit his lip
REAL hard).

"Ah... well played, heroes. Well... played..."

Disco Head then replaces his, well, Disco Head, in a dance of mirrors and
micro-mechanics. "It's funny, really, how your type never give up. Almost
like myself. So, I probably shouldn't do this, but I'm going to. His
disco-ball light dingus then starts glowing.

The two of you can feel a change in the nature of your bonds. They feel a
bit... less.

"I know the two of you don't like me, and I'm sure the whole 'hero' thing
has something to do with that, but I don't really dislike you. Heck,
you're the most likeable 'good guys' I've met in a good long time - not
counting my time on ice, that is.

"So, I'm going to give you a fighting chance."

He then nails the two goons with photonic blasts. It still looks weird,
him using what looks like his entire head to shoot folks with ... like
really BIG power blasts. Regardless, they smack against the wall, and hit
the stone floor with a wet, meaty thud.

"My ersatz ally, A-Lonse, wants you two dead with a passion. Heck, I think
he's aroused with the thought. But personally, I don't like him very
much. He keeps claiming to be my friend, but was happy to sacrifice me to
his filthy lizard friend.

"So. In about three minutes, I think he'll finally get tired of my
stalling, and come in here to kill the two of you, and probably me. But,
I'll be gone by then... and I set my bonds to dissolve in TWO
minutes. That will give you enough time to escape.

"And, if you feel like it, to pay A-Lonse back for his continual villainy,
especially as it's directed towards you and whoever these friends of yours
he keeps railing about are. Anyway, I'm off, so don't be surprised if you
hear about a certain Ex President's demise in the news.

"Ta taa!"

Disco Head then grabs those two stun rods, places them on the desk, and
leaves the room. When you concentrate, you can actually feel the bonds
that hold you suspended in the air shrinking, as you're getting more and
more wiggle room by the second.

Neat trick, that. You could almost respect Disco Head's technical genius
if it wasn't bent on murder, really.

So... now what?

well, is there any way you can track WHEN the various energies that thing

"I'm thinking oh, when about ten of them showed up and vanished almost as
quick. If we can decipher how your device there works, Ari, we may be able
to get a reading on the energy of the spell that sent those ten foes we
fought here elsewhere... and then find out where Ysen got to.

"And then, perhaps, try to track down Stone Cold, though he's much faster
than you and I..."

Speaking of Stone Cold.

You chase after the fellow in the snowsuit for several minutes, and seem to
be gaining on him - at least, until he hits what would appear to be a long,
long stairwell carved into the ice. The guy pulled a snowboard that he had
strapped to his back off, and hit the stairs.

And rocketed down into the icy depths below.

Assuming you follow, you can at least keep up with the guy, as you can
basically emulate the same stunt with your ice powers. At the bottom of
the stairs, though, something unexpected happens - the tunnel opens up
considerably - into what would appear to be a small city.

And it looks rather... familiar...!

You COULD be going out on a limb here, but you think Moebius doesn't like your idea, Gunslinger. Though that wouldn't be much of a stretch. "Perhaps you have forgotten, BOUNTY HUNTER, that we have a deal. A deal that involves that book. MY BOOK."

This draws a chuckle forth from the old man. "No need to kill each other, youngsters - I don't want your book. No, I'm old. And getting older fast. Back in the day, I could easily just go and swipe whatever I wanted from space and time. Back in the day.

"No, no. I just want to retire in peace... the time machine business is getting slow, and besides, I just want to relax in style. I tell you what. If your friend with the collar there gives me all his stuff - and I mean ALL OF IT - I'll make you all the interdiction devices.

"And make your staff into a temporal conveyance. Hell, I built that watch that your Gunslinging friend is using there, so that shouldn't be a problem." Taking your staff, Charlie, he laughs again. "Ah! A staff of pure, unadulterated transient steel. Tachyonic conductor.

"Should work out VERY well. I think that your little condominium, your money, and your trinkets are a small price to pay for the power I'm offering you. Especially considering that, with your attitude, replacing them should be child's play.

"As for you, though, my pale friend, I do believe that the device YOU are asking about would be much, much, much more expensive than you would imagine. I could build such a thing, but it would take time, and the power it would consume would be ungodly.

Finally, he's got about eight smaller bracelets. "I had some spare parts, so since I'm retiring in style, I figured I'd be nice to all y'all. After all, you time travelers tend to pick up side kicks right quick." This prompts a look at the two of you from Moebius.

The techies are more than unhappy with this state of affairs. You keep
hearing things like "I think he's awake, sir..." and "I'm not sure if the
neural clamp is going to hold, sir..." Of course, there's two folks in
here that aren't, in fact, techies.

Two of 'em are heavily armed goons. You can tell by the hair.

You both leap into action, Rebound pile-driving a goon into a bank of
computers and such with one impressive bound, and Jinx putting a
considerable hole in the shoulder of the other. They're both out before
they know what hit 'em.

This, then, causes several of the techies to note your presence. "What the
hell are you doing? The subject is at critical mass... he could pop any
second!" This genius, apparently the leader of this bunch of remarkably
pink folk, don't seem to know that Ken's with you.

Heh.

The man with the disco ball for a head pauses.

You could imagine him saying something akin to "..."

"Hurm. I assumed you would remember the fellow who tried to kill you what,
three times now? You know, attempted to resurrect an ancient
techno-sorcerer called Morbis, tried to knock the earth off its rotational
axis, really, really has it in for you, etc., etc..."

"Never mind..."

He then flies off, not bothering to answer your second question, Stone
Cold. Leaving you, of course, to continue your long trudge up the extended
icy stone corridor (and smashing it up somewhat in the process - crunch
crunch crunch...).

Meanwhile, about a mile away, Och nods at your statement.

"Yes... I'm not being completely rash in this, Ari, don't worry."

After you fidget with the thing for a bit longer, you get the impression
that it has saved the readings you have taken, Ari, for the bizarre sensor
mechanism has displayed an image of a good ol' floppy disc - and there's no
room to put one in the thing.

"Well, I suppose we should wander along after Stone Cold, so he doesn't
cause too much of a ruckus without us, Ari..." As Och looks at the tunnel
that Stone Cold so recently chased that rather pink fellow through, he
seems unhappy with something.

"You see that light, Ari?"

When you look, of course, you see a weird swirl of multi-colored light that
reminds you of what you just might see in a dance club on a more hypnotic
night. It quickly resolves itself into a man, one with a huge disco ball
on his head. Or for a head, you're not sure.

And it's definitely a he, for he's wearing a potent outfit from the
seventies, complete with open-chested shirt (to demonstrate his appreciable
chest hair), gold chains, and a heroic collection of gold rings - one of
which has a diamond cut like a disco ball on it.

It's HUGE.

It doesn't take too long, what with Seguridad being a sort of smallish

bit more advanced, even.

It's bricked, as opposed to consisting of asphalt-in-disrepair.

Ultra Xiang stands in front of the library for a minute, and after taking
in the sight of the library, he licks his thumb. He then moves it in a
sort of circular motion all around him.

"An ill wind blows tonight. Woogawoogawooga!" With that he laughs, and
then falls over in the ensuing guffaw-like action. Makes one hope that his
vampire hunting 'angle' is pretty sharp.

Meanwhile, as he approaches, Mos Quito stops, and smells the
air. "Aha! Mos Quito smells himself some lunch. Pardon me!" He then
dashes into the alley next to the oversized, three-story library.

"tee hee hee," says Ultra Xiang. "Woogawooga!"

This definitely bodes ill.

The technician you're menacing starts to stammer, Jinx. "But... but... we
can't disconnect him. Only A-Lonse knows the pass-code to the neural
clamp... honest! Don't kill me, please please please!"

He then descends into incoherent, fear-filled muttering.

Meanwhile, the one you nab is a rather attractive - yet exceptionally pink
- lab techie-ette, Rebound. You reel her in and make your own threats, to
which she shrugs. "What he said.

"None of us can disconnect the clamp... A-Lonse wants the power this one
wields for himself - something about a bet between him and some human
technician calling himself... Old Gruff?!?"

That name rings a bell, Rebound. (or does it? heheh)

"So... what else can you do with that stuff, tough guy?" This, of course,
totally throws you off-guard, Rebound. Not what she said so much as... how
she said it. She sounds downright NAUGHTY.

Before you can respond, the whole point becomes moot when Ken explodes with
power. All the devices pointing towards him, strung on and about his
person, or even just in the vicinity, explode with him.

It's a satisfying cascade of destruction.

When the spots clear from your eyes, you see Ken floating in the midst of
the rubble, looking ungodly pissed. He's so angry that he's literally
leaking power. He's glowing white, and looks almost unreal.

Almost like he's made of pure energy.

"GODDAMNIT!" Yeah, he's definitely angry. "Why do you pricks keep doing
this? If it isn't one asshole, it's another. I tell you what,
though. You want some of my power? You got it!"

Ken then starts blasting away, firing impossibly large bursts of energy
from what appears to be his entire body! Computer banks, walls, the solid
rock beyond them, nothing can stand before Ken's rage.

Hole after hole after smoking hole appears in the chamber you're in,
revealing more beyond, which also feel Ken's wrath. Techies and other
apparent staff-folk flee in terror from his rampage.

And it's definitely a rampage... you've never really seen Ken cut loose
before. Much less cuss.

Makes you hope he sees you before he brings the whole place down around

"Calm down? Calm down!?"

You get the impression that Ken doesn't like this idea.

In fact, he lets loose with another devastating blast of power as he retorts to your entreaty, shattering several more walls and chambers beyond this one.

You also get the impression that this is gonna cost a certain villain a LOT of money to repair.

"Easy for you to say, calm down. I'm tired of calm! For crying out loud,
I've got all this power, and it seems that every five minutes, some jerk or
another wants to take it.

"And here I have no clue how I really got these powers, or why, or if these
jerks can even pull it off. But I'm tired of it - I seem to be able to do
anything I want, so why can't I see this sort of thing coming?"

As if on cue, Ken seems to change once he says this. When before he was
just glowing an impossibly bright white in hue, he changes to an all black
coloration... almost.

It's almost like he looks like... a humanoid embodiment of the universe
itself, a black void filled with stars and other celestial objects. It's
as though he'd... gone all cosmic.

"Wow...!"

He seems in some sort of stupor, as though he had just opened his eyes for
the very first time - and had all of reality poked into them. Naturally,
of course, this is when the squad of back-up goons arrives.

"Kill them! Kill them all!"

There's about eight of 'em, all unnaturally pink-skinned like A-lonse, and
armed to the hilt with really big guns, knives, and assorted implements of
pain and/or destruction.

As you put on the mystic ring, Stone Cold, you feel it tingle on your
oversized fingers for a moment. It looked at first as though the thing was
too small to fit you, but it actually changed size to fit you. That seems
somewhat handy.

That's not all, though. You have the distinct impression that you're being
watched... but you can't quite tell by who. Though they're not giving you
the hairy eyeball, per se, you can't help but feel that Ari and Och are
looking at you funny.

As though, for instance, you had cabbage stuck in your teeth. As soon as
you mention Morbis, though, Och growls. "Yes... that's curious. I assumed
that we had dealt with him once and for all, though his minions seemed to
survive his demise.

"Like that fool A-lonse, who resurrect him, much less knock the world off
its rotational axis, something about warming up his ancient home...
hey. You say there's a city down there, Stone Cold?! Perhaps we should
ALL investigate this, say, now...!"

Assuming that you all agree, and follow Stone Cold back down to the strange
city he just discovered there, you see that it's rather impressive once you
make your way down that rather impressive set of ice-carved stairs. Well,
for a city a mile beneath the Antarctic ice.

There is a ring of buildings surrounding a central plaza, it would seem,
for there's a road leading straight from this tunnel, one that points right
to it. The central plaza has one large building in its center, one that
appears to be something akin to a capitol building.

There are then several other buildings packed around it, taller than you
would at first think necessary, but as you look about, you see that space
here is at something of a premium; the ice dome that it sits within is only
about two miles in diameter.

This means that there's only so much room for development. Which also
makes one wonder how these people get enough food to eat, air to breathe,
etc... though that seems to be not-too-important right now. This, of
course, is because there's a building nearby that's exploding.

Not quite in a singular, chemical-explosion or terrorist-attack sort of
way, so much as if something inside were tearing it apart - with large
blasts of a familiar looking whitish energy. Something eye-popping about
it has Ken's name all over it...!

Well, using my newly undead status, i guess i can
manage that. "Hey hoss, just fly her over to New York

course, i'm not gonna be too happy with me.

"Not once i find out that i sold my pad..."

You race after Mos Quito into the dark alley besides this 'special'
library, Masque, and curiously enough, you don't get those 'I think this is
a bad idea' notions until, well, you hear them. Skittering and scratching
all around you.

That's when you bump into Mos Quito.

"Hello, my lunches! Say hello to my little friend!"

Mos Quito then pauses, as though he were trying to remember something.

"Ah yes! Mos Quito's little friend is a wizard from Up Yonder! He can
pull a rabbit out of your hat. Or perhaps your.... pouch?!?"

The strange, almost humanoid kangaroo then leaps into the air, and stomps
on Mos Quito's head, punching him a good foot through the broken asphalt
surface that makes up this alley.

"Er, were-kangaroo? Mos Quito admits that Mos Quito did not see that one
coming, yes...?"

The so named monsters respond by saying "RAAAARGH!" in unison.

Meanwhile, in front of the library proper, you stand by as Ultra Xiang sits
drooling and giggling in the middle of the street. "So's I was saying. I
was. Saying woogywoogywoogy. No, that's not it. I was talking about this
guy. What's his face.

"Ah yeah, he was a robot. No, a turnip. Wait. I got it, he was a
mechanic! That's is. It. It's it. He wanted three hundred dollars just
to change my spark plugs, so I says. Say. Sayeth. I said 'Goddamnit,
just because I can't fix my car don't mean I can't melt your brain.'"

"No, wait, that was the plumber." Ultra Xiang then stops to flail his arms
around, apparently in his own little world. "Whee!"

As this incoherent rambling takes place, Magus, you feel a change in the
air all around you. It's like it's a bit more oppressive, perhaps... more
evil. You can't see anything at first, but soon enough they appear, as
though walking out of the shadows themselves.

There's six of them, and they look just a wee bit tougher than the ones
that Masque so easily got rid of last time. Naturally, they're all decked
out as though they'd been to some sort of Victorian era costume party,
wearing clothing that seems centuries old.

Or, at the very least, more at home with what you're used to seeing than
what all these mad people on 'earth' seem to utilize.

"Hello hello hello! What. Have. We. Here."

They pause to look down at the drooling form of Ultra Xiang.

"Fancy meeting him here. And in quite a stupor, I might say. And look, he
brought a new friend with him, too. Perhaps he traded his other side kick
in for one with a bit more oomph?" They all chuckle at that, apparently
amused by you, Magus...

The two of you head towards the detonating building, and see people
alternately running towards it and away. Those fleeing seem to be the
'civilian' types, wearing lab coats and such, while those running in look
to be the 'heavily armed thug' types.

Being, well, heavily armed thugs.

They all are curious in appearance though, for while they're all human, per

standard. Also, the odd thing is that they seem to be speaking English,
though you'd imagine a lost city wouldn't have that ability.

Since this isn't a movie after all...

Of course, after the two of you stand there in the way of traffic, more
detonations and other such chicanery happening in the mean time, some of
the heavily armed fellows finally take notice of the three of
you. "Hey! What're you people doing here?

You go to land the car, Gunslinger, when you seem to crash into
something... big and metal. At least, that's what it seems like, from the
sound your car made, and the end-result of said crash being that
everybody's now in the front seat.

It's a big spaghetti of limbs and bits and weapons.

But. You look out the window and don't see anything that you would've
hit. Backing up a hair and then going forward, you bump something again,
and see... flakes of visibility appear before your vehicle, as though you'd
ruined something's 'invisible paint'.

It looks like it could be some sort of ship, perhaps, from the square yard
of surface area that you can make out. Perhaps some sort of stealth
dingus, though why it's here, say, is something you're not sure
about. Though you do hear a voice coming from it.

"Goddamnit! I just fixed this thing up a week ago. You know how hard it
is to get parts for this thing, when they won't be invented for a thousand
years yet? Eesh... stupid aliens. If I had a dollar for every alien that
rear-ended my ship..."

The voice then descends into a sort of 'robble robble'.

Or perhaps 'peas and carrots'.

You eventually manage to land, bumping into the thing once or twice more,
and stepping out of your vehicle in a highly armed fashion (once you detach
yourself from everybody else) you see the person that belongs to the
voice. "What's a Bellicose doing here?"

The fellow's about six foot one, has brown hair, fair (almost albino) skin,
and light brown hair. He's wearing dirty white overalls, and has a nifty
tool belt that looks like something Batman would wear, really. And the
biggest boots you've ever seen.

"Hey, you scratched my paint!"

Oddly, your car is unblemished.

The old timesmith then gets out of your vehicle and scowls. "Nobody said
anything about roof parking..."

Moebius just laughs from the confines of your vehicle.

The assembled gaggle of were-kangaroos (!) proceed to pummel on Mos Quito mightily. Or, more appropriately, stomp and kick on him as though he were some sort of oversized hackey-sack ball. He even bounces back and forth between them as they kick him about.

"Oh! Ow! Oo! Ee!"

There were five of them doing this, of course, until the one of them who is apparently the brains of the outfit stops and starts smelling the air. "Sniff sniff." He actually says this, Masque, and starts looking at you. "Somebody likes garlic..."

Suddenly you feel dumb regarding those breadsticks.

He ambles towards you, looking right at you, though he doesn't specifically seem to see you, per se...

Just a couple dozen yards away, you are yourself slowly approached by the six-pack of villainous sorts that menace both you and Ultra Xiang, Magus. Their apparent leader, or at least the more loud-mouthed member of their number, sneers at the two of you.

And shows off his most respectable fangs.

"Oh, sorry if you couldn't smell us outright, friend, but we're not your average band of 'scourge of the earth vampires'. No, no. We believe in things like deodorant... which is something I presume you lack intimate knowledge of." He smells the air theatrically.

"Unless that's just your drunkard of a friend, there."

They begin to circle around you in that overly familiar 'one of us might get lucky and hit him from behind' fashion that villains typically presume when there's, say, six more mobile portions of their roster than there are in yours. And they look hungry.

Not quite for blood so much as for... revenge...!
