Origin:

Originally a relatively normal human being, the Madman is a dangerous paranormal who acquired his dreaming powers in the wake of the Black Event. This catastrophe, the utter annihilation of Pittsburgh, was a direct result of an uncontrolled Star Brand energy discharge. Its mutagenic energies, cast off in a manner similar to the original White Event, twisted the Madman's mind and gave it inexplicable abilities.

Known Powers:

Dream Projection: the Madman's primary power is his ability to slip into the dreams of others, an ability which he can use at rank value 30. While he's in the short-lived pocket plane where the dream takes place, the Madman can interact with the dream on a physical level, swapping physical abilities for mental traits as if he were astrally projecting.

However, what makes the Madman's powers so dangerous is that, while interacting with a person in their dreams, whatever he does to hurt his victims will cause real, Karmic damage to them, this damage being rank value 30 in its extent. As such, the Madman can actually kill people in their sleep, which leaves almost no hint as to why his random targets have died.

Illusion Projection: the Madman's other, rank value 30 power is his ability to alter the perceptions of others, though this ability can only be used while he's wandering about in somebody's dreams. Using this power, he can manufacture just about any situation or environment he chooses inside somebody's head, and these are often exceptionally lethal.

Limitations / Enhancements:

Equipment:

Quirks:

Insanity: the Madman, as his alias suggests, is seriously insane. His dream powers have warped his sense of reality to the point that it is no longer aligned with the real world, and as such, he must pass a Willpower ACT roll at -2 RS to act sensibly or react to reason, should he be so inclined to try. It should be noted that he doesn't care to most of the time, either.

Skills:

(none)

Contacts:

(none)

Costume:

Unsurprisingly, the Madman is usually wearing a straitjacket (with optional padded room) most of the time. While his mind wanders about inflicting harm to people in their dreams, however, he wears black leather boots, army green pants, and a black turtleneck sweater. His reason for this, along with most of his other motivations, are totally unknown.

Personality:

He's bloody bonkers. After the Black Event, the Madman's powers kicked in full-tilt, and his ability to enter and alter the dreams of others totally shattered his mind. As such, he's transformed into something of a megalomaniac, traipsing around in people's dreams and killing them simply for kicks and, most importantly, just because he can.

Real Name: unrevealed

Height: 6' 2"
Hair: blond

Other Distinguishing Characteristics: the Madman is a tall, tubby sort of man with a severe crew-cut. Also, he constantly has a haunted, chilling grin at all times. This attracts some attention.

Story:

Little is known about the history and background of the paranormal called the Madman. It is known that he was relatively normal until the Black Event, the disintegration of the entire city of Pittsburgh (and about twenty-five miles around it), after which he changed. He gained the ability to peer into the dreams of others, and affect them as if events in said dreams were actually occurring.

The man that would become the Madman enjoyed messing with people - so much so, in fact, that he eventually lost his grip on standard reality, and was institutionalized. This didn't stop him from playing with his toys, however, and the Madman managed, over time, to kill over 342 people in their sleep, baffling authorities and totally freaking out the local populace.

Though he was having fun, the Madman wasn't sure if he was invulnerable in this form. As such, he sought out Keith Remsen, the so-called Nightmask, to see if this fellow dream walker could manage to kill him. Attempting to escape this dangerous man, Remsen probed his mind to find some sort of image he could use against him.

Which caused an image of the Justice Killer to surface.

Seeing this, the Madman let Remsen go, instead wanting to face Justice in his dreams. Drawing him into his nightmare, the Madman taunted Justice for a time, trying to goad him into destroying him in any way he possibly could. Since his sword arm wasn't working, Tensen instead triggered his shields inside the Madman, an act that split him into multiple, little 'kid' Madmen.

These little trolls then picked Tensen up and threw him over a cliff's edge. The Madman subsequently let him go, glad that Tensen had done his all to kill him, and had failed. Now sure of his invulnerability, the Madman then settled in to a life of toying with people from a distance, and then killing them. Of course, little did he know that forces were aligning against him.

In the waking world, Remsen had managed to determine the identity of the Madman, and since he had proved that he was responsible for hundreds of sleeping deaths in the surrounding areas, the Madman's psychiatrists decided that they had to lobotomize him as soon as possible. This was never shown, so it is unknown whether or not the Madman managed to avoid this grisly fate.

But it's still pretty likely.
