* Amongst humans, at least. In +40 to fellow Autobots, In -40 regarding Decepticons.

Origin:

One of the Transformers, Ratchet is a mechanoid entity hailing from the planet Cybertron. This silicon-based, metamorphic life form has a number of abilities that, when compared to the average Joe, can only be described as super-human in scope.

Known Powers:

Cybertronian Physique: hailing from Cybertron, as do most other Transformers, Ratchet is a siliconic mechanoid who was either built or formed on that world long, long ago. His origins on that world have given Ratchet the following, super-human capabilities:

* Body Armor: formed or forged from primarily metallic materials, Ratchet is considerably durable. His sturdy, inorganic composition affords Ratchet Good (10) protection from attack, enough to help him ignore most human assaults. Ratchet's armor breaks down like so:

Gd 10 / Pr 4 / Sh 0 / Sh 0 / Sh 0

* Growth: unlike most species of life, Transformers scoff at the notion of a standard size, and often appear in a very large variety of such. Take Ratchet for example, who stands at around eighteen feet tall in his humanoid mode, thus having this power at Typical (6) rank.

As a result, this Autobot medic possesses a +1 size factor. Ratchet suffers a -1 CS penalty when targeting human-sized foes, but gains a +1 CS on whatever damage he inflicts against them. Conversely, human-sized foes assaulting him do so under the reverse of those modifiers.

While this assumes a static volume, many Transformers have demonstated that their size can be highly variable. This reflexive, dynamic size manipulation is an emergent property of Transformers overall, though such mass displacement must surely consume vast amounts of power.

These dynamic volume shifts are most often used when transforming, and enable Transformers to interact with beings of differing sizes without further modifications being required of them. This ultimately allows Transformers to wield or ride within their fellows seamlessly.

* Microscopic / Telescopic Vision: while all Transformers can alter their visual acuity to some extent, Ratchet is his very own walking, talking electron microscope. He has the latter power at Feeble (2) ability per the norm, but has the former with Unearthly (100) power.

* Radio Transceiver: as are most other Transformers, Ratchet is equipped with an audio / video transmission system. This communications rig allows him instant contact with any other Cybertronian within a wide radius of his person, having Excellent (20) range (100 miles).

* Resistance / Invulnerability to Disease and Poison: an inorganic life form, Ratchet possesses complete immunity to organic poisons and diseases. He also possesses Unearthly (100) resistance to more chemically creative forms of disease and poison.

Arc Welder: Ratchet can replace his right hand with an arc welder, which he can use to assemble and disassemble metal objects. Useful either when repairing his allies or attacking his foes, Ratchet's arc welder allows him to inflict Energy damage in melee while it is active.

Diagnosis: equipped with a multitude of circuit sensors, Ratchet has the ability to easily diagnose problems with the electronics of any mechanoid patient. These Unearthly (100) sensors can easily track down even the tiniest of cracked chip components or traces!

Headlights: to better emulate earthen vehicles (and since they come in handy in the dark), Ratchet is equipped with a set of convenient headlights. These twin lamps can be used to generate Excellent (20) intensity illumination, making driving at night no problem.

Medical Platform: when in his robot mode, Ratchet has the use of a large, treaded surgical platform with which to repair his allies. A part and parcel of his own being, Ratchet's platform can nonetheless be piloted by others, and has these characteristics:

Missile Launcher: while riding his surgical platform, or even when directing it from afar, Ratchet can fire considerably powerful missiles from it. These potent weapons are usually Ratchet's last resort in combat, and possess these vehicular characteristics:

Shape Change: though possessed of considerable abilities above and beyond his fellow Autobots, Ratchet is possibly best known for his ability to transform between his humanoid and Nissan Onebox ambulance modes. The latter has these characteristics:

Limitations / Enhancements:

(none)

Equipment:

Static Laser Gun: this piece of hardware can be used by Ratchet or his medical platform. Either way, it may fire beams of coherent light which inflict Good (10) Armor Piercing Energy damage - and are great for performing delicate operations on Ratchet's fellow Autobots!

Quirks:

(none)

Talents:

Electronics 2: a Transformer is digital as much as they are mechanical, and thus Ratchet has learned how to design, build, repair, and even operate all manner of electronic circuits and devices. His Reason should be considered +2 CS in this arena of knowledge.

Engineering 2: Ratchet is a master builder, able to construct just about anything he puts his mind to - given the parts and the time. He may resolve ACTIONs to design and construct objects, ranging from steel gears to entire buildings, at his Reason score +2 CS.

Repair / Tinkering 2: a mechanic without compare, Ratchet excels in patching his fellow mechanoids back together, often doing so by manufacturing the replacement parts they need on the spot. He can attempt to modify extant parts to suit his current needs with a +2 CS bonus.

Contacts:

Ratchet is an indispensable member of the Autobots, and is directly responsible for saving the lives of countless members of that Transformer faction over the last five million or so years. Any of his allies would gladly help Ratchet out, whether or not he asked for it.

Likeness:

When in his vehicular configuration, Ratchet perfectly resembles a white Nissan Onebox ambulance with a red stripe down the side. Upon transforming, Ratchet splits into both a tall, red and white robot, as well as a mobile, treaded medical platform.

Personality:

Ratchet is the sort of party animal that can easily put Jazz to shame. But don't let that fool you, for he's just as dedicated to the battle against the Decepticons as any of his fellows are. No, Ratchet just finds himself... easily distracted, now and then.

The best tool-and-die mechanoid this side of Cybertron, Ratchet can build just about anything, which helps him to keep his fellow Autobots running even when low on replacement parts. What he doesn't have, Ratchet can usually make from materials he's got on hand.

Even if he sasses you while doing so. Known for his infamously jocular bedside manner, Ratchet is known to quip at his fellows while stripping them down and fixing whatever it is that ails them. He talks back with regularity, but never refuses to do his job.

Whether he's repairing his fellow Autobots or fighting by their side, Ratchet is a mainstay of Optimus Prime's forces!

Real Name: Ratchet
Occupation: chief medical officer
Legal Status: citizen of Cybertron with no known criminal record, either there or on earth.
Marital Status: inapplicable
Alias(es), if any: none
Group Affiliation: the Autobots

Height: 18'
Hair: inapplicable
Eyes: blue
Weight: approximately two tons
Other Distinguishing Characteristics: Ratchet appears either as a white Nissan ambulance-type Onebox, or a red and white robot (and a large, treaded surgical platform) built from the parts of such.

Design Notes:

I deviated from the standard conversion process laid out in Transcribing Transformers when giving Ratchet a second pass, namely because in practice his Fighting and Agility seemed swapped. Ratchet isn't a brawler, much less an Unearthly brawler, so I can live with this take.
