DP 7 Issue Guide #2
Issue 3:
Loose Ends
Picking up a short while after the displaced paranormals first left their assailants in the woods near David's motor home, we see that Randy and Stephanie have notified the police of their ill doings. Having brought to police officers to the site of their battle with the Clinc's headhunters, the two paranormals were less than happy to see that their antagonists had flown the coop - much faster than expected.
The officers weren't too amused at this, growing suspicious of the two and their strange tale, a situation which came to a head rather quickly. Saving them from the police when Randy's antibody punched an officer, Jeffrey quickly knocked the policemen senseless... though he roughed them up pretty good by accident. The trio patched the cops up as best as they could, and Jeffrey loaded 'em into their car.
Randy and Stephanie then made their way back to David's trailer, and let the others know what happened. As it turned out, they weren't too keen on talking to the police to begin with, though oddly nobody hit them with an 'I told you so' - not even Scuzz. Expecting trouble any time now, David then started up his truck and hauled his trailer away, expecting Jeffrey to catch up with them once he'd helped the cops further.
Jeffrey did catch up with the others shortly after they began their drive, but unfortunately one of David's neighbors spotted the trailer pulling out at three in the morning, and called the police. More showed up to check the place out on their own however, looking for the people who roughed up their pals, but they were in turn ambushed by other paranormals - this time, the Clinc's trio of headhunters!
That next morning, after stopping to make a bite to eat, the seven paranormals resolved to head to Stephanie's home to let her see her kids. En route, they were flagged down by a police car, but there were no ordinary police inside. Doing a quick recon of their vehicle, Jeffrey realized that it was those same goons from the night before, and let the others know that pulling over was a bad, bad idea.
Attacking them, Charlotte had a hard time disabling their vehicle from the moving trailer, primarily because she couldn't apply her power to the road without being sure it'd affect the trailer too. In the end, it came down to Randy having his antibody dive into the stolen police car to distract its passengers enough to stop them. And it did - causing them to crash spectacularly!
Pulling over, the paranormals angsted about whether or not they should help their potentially dead enemies, when David threw down the gauntlet. Hopping back in his truck, he said he was leaving... and that if anyone stayed to help those clowns they'd be left behind. Randy reluctantly got back in the trailer with that, though unbeknownst to him, his antibody pulled them out of the burning police car and made sure they were (relatively) okay.
Later that night, in suburban Sheboygan, David parked his pickup truck outside Stephanie's home. Having left his trailer outside of town to stay low-key, he had only come there with her and Jeffrey. As they waited outside, Stephanie met her husband, only to have him freak out about her returning without being 'cured' of her 'condition'. Worse, her children weren't even there, having been sent to stay with his mom!
As Stephanie melted down, her husband Chuck tried to keep her there while he secretly called the Clinic, letting them know she'd made her way home. Soon enough, the Clinic's trio of headhunters made their way there, and decided to deal with the duo out in Dave's truck first. When Jeffrey ran out to relieve himself, they made their move, and Shrapnel stunned David with his strange, psychoplasmic blisters.
Before tranquilizing him senseless. He then joined Bloodhound in heading up to Stephanie's door, the two all suited up and posing as respectable members of the Clinic's staff. Once they were inside, Vice Versa waited for Jeffrey's return, and ambushed him with her power as he approached the truck. He'd wised up to her tricks however, and managed to make her knock herself out with her own tranquilizer darts!
Stephanie, meanwhile, went ballistic upon realizing that her husband had ratted her out to the Clinic. Fleeing her house after an altercation with Shrapnel and Bloodhound, Stephanie collected Jeffrey and the two got into Dave's truck, only to find him in a sorry state. Shoving him into the middle of the truck's seat, the two then drove off before their opponents could recover.
Having lost the seven escaped paranormals a third time now, the headhunters feared for their own futures at this point...
Issue 4:
Wompus
At a rest stop in rural Wisconsin, our story begins with the seven displaced paranormals inspecting David's truck and trailer, looking for tracking devices. You see, after being ambushed by that trio of Clinic headhunters three separate times, they wanted to make sure there wasn't some sort of homing beacon or other electronic doo-dad being used to follow their movements.
While unable to find one, the group was also unable to rule out the notion that a paranormal at the Clinic, perhaps Ms. Speck, was using such abilities to keep tabs on them. While everyone talked about it, the paranormals inadvertently managed to scare off a small family solely due to their menacing appearance, and decided that perhaps now was a good time to get themselves moving.
Even if Jeffrey hadn't returned yet. You see, he had gone foraging for food to fuel his high speed metabolism, and hadn't managed to make it back yet. But then, he hadn't had much luck - until finding a large family picnic he could raid for a whole lot of 'vittles' at once. Upon his return, Jeffrey noticed the group had left without him - yet again - and ran to catch up with them once more.
Upon his return, he quickly got involved with a verbal spat with Scuzz, over the smell the youth was generating; his powers made short work of most conventional clothing, and some fibers smelled much worse than others when he dissolved them with his ability. This went on for several minutes, until Lenore threatened to knock the both of them out to keep the peace in David's trailer.
Later that night, the group pulled over to get dinner at a nearby diner. Those of the paranormals who could pass as 'normal' went inside, with the promise of bringing something out for the others soon enough. Lenore took that opportunity to take a long shower, happy to be free of her heavy, obscuring clothing - if only for a little while. David and Stephanie made some small talk for a bit, until he walked off for some fresh air.
Only to be menaced by an angry mob! This group was looking for a so-called wompus, a mythical creature they believed was responsible for the mutilation of several farm animals in the area... and David looked quite monstrous to them. Dragging him off to jail once they realized he could talk, David was nowhere to be found when the others returned, much to their collective dismay.
Searching for him, the group finally found David when Randy's antibody located him in the town jail, and Randy came to get the man out... to no avail. Realizing that they had to prove David's innocence somehow, the group decided to investigate the issue themselves and, when that failed to produce much useful information, they chose to pose as a 'wompus' themselves to clear David's name (somehow).
To this end, the group knocked out a cow in a nearby farm, and had Jeffrey put on a blanket and move at ridiculous speeds to pretend he was one of the monsters. Making sure the farmer who owned said cow clearly saw the so-called wompus, Jeffrey took off when the man started shooting at him - only to trip over a group of kids in the forest. He then proceeded to scare them off for fun.
As they fled, Jeffrey noted a horrible stench in the area, and investigating it he found that the teens had a cooler full of rotting organs of various types with them. Mortified, he decided to deal with them himself. Menacing them anew as the 'wompus', Jeffrey scared them out of their minds, and told them that if they didn't confess their sins, he was going to string them up with their own entrails!
Not wanting to die horribly, the teens complied with the wishes of the 'wompus'. They proceeded to turn themselves in, describing their crimes in lurid detail - how they were a club of hunters, who wanted to 'bag' one of every animal in the area. Having run out of legal game, they were now working their way through the local farms, hitting one of every kind of animal they could get their hands on.
With them in jail, the police had no choice but to let David go, since he clearly wasn't the culprit... even if they didn't like him very much. Randy came to collect David in his truck once he's been let go, and the two then made their way back to the others. Of course, Jeffrey wasn't quite done playing the wompus just yet, and jokingly menaced the duo as they drove to David's trailer once more.
Untold Tales of the New Universe: DP 7
The Dead Plains Seven
In the modern age, we spy young Mitchell waking up in a panic, after a nightmare about zombies. Comforting him, his father, Keso, laments telling him about the dark past of his tribe. To soothe his son's fears, he retells the tale of the tribe's encounter with those they called the Dead Plains Seven, those who helped the tribe in its battle against one of their own... and her horde of reanimated minions!
It all started in late 1986, when the seven displaced paranormals wheeled up to the Screaming Eagles bar. While debating whether or not to enter the rather shady looking establishment, the place erupted into violence, and the bar owner's daughter came running out, looking for help. Though most of the group was reluctant to get involved, Jeffrey had had enough of that, and ran in swinging.
Encouraged by his actions, the rest followed him into the bar, quickly breaking up the fight with their paranormal abilities. Of course, this good deed did not go unpunished, for the bartender and his daughter (the latter of whom asked them for help in the first place) were freaked out by their super-powers, and warded them off with a shotgun for their troubles. Leaving in a huff, the paranormals were greeted by Keso.
He claimed to be a paranormal like them, who said he was led to the group of seven such individuals by a vision. Intrigued, the seven followed Keso to his home, on the Menominee Indian Reservation, where he told them of the tribe's recent past, and how he and his sister Seka gained special powers after the recent 'White Sky' came. He gained the ability to commune with the spirits of the tribe's ancestors.
But Seka, she gained the power to actually reanimate the dead! Rendered mad by the ramifications of her power, Seka left the tribe, only to regularly return with her zombie army to wreak havoc. And that was why Keso asked the seven paranormals for their help - he needed them to help stop her rampage... once and for all! Of course, the group was split on this (as usual), and had to go debate whether or not to aid Keso.
Ultimately, the seven paranormals opted to aid Keso and his people, and were immediately prepared for the coming fight - which they learned all too late was to occur that very night! The various elders who had not yet fled the Reservation then aided the seven paranormals in their preparations, blessing them and giving them everything they needed for the battle to come... which began all too soon.
As night fell, Seka returned as she had the last two fortnights, strolling towards the village amongst the reanimated army of her ancestors. Watching with sheer horror as this occurred, the seven paranormals weren't sure how to proceed - at least, until Keso charged towards the zombies. Following his lead, they then sprang into action, attacking the zombie horde with everything they had.
Of course, as it turned out Seka had more abilities than just her power over the dead, and she brought this power to bear against Keso and his fellow shamans when they attacked her directly. Blasting him with an otherworldly power, Seka prepared to end his life once and for all when Randy's antibody finally entered the fight, having been idle all this time, and somehow rendered Seka comatose.
While the seven displaced paranormals collected themselves after their sickening fight with the army of the dead, Keso embraced his now comatose sister, who still lived... but seemed to be no longer in residence, as it were. Taking her home, the combatants then celebrated their victory. After a long night of rest, the seven paranormals then left the reservation, not wanting to bring any more heat on Keso than he'd already faced.
The tale told, Mitchell then asked his father what ever happened to the Dead Plains Seven after they left in David's motor home. Keso admitted that he didn't know, but that he thought about them from time to time. He then asked what happened to Seka, but Keso told his son that this was a tale for another day, and bid him to go to sleep. He tried of course, but outside his window, Mitchell thought he saw something.
He thought he saw Seka!
